Then there were several choices for dinner

Seafood risotto with shrimp, clams, mussels

Baked Salmon

Swordfish

A chicken dish

And the overwhelming choice (I think only 3 of the 18 present had something different)

Porcini rubbed filet mignon  with Demi glacé , grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes

Exceptional books I read this year that were published prior to 2019 that I haven't commented on yet.
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark T. Sullivan
The Child Finder (Naomi Cottle #1) by Rene Denfeld
On the Beach by Nevil Shute
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman

I remember reading On the Beach back in ninth grade English. I loved it. I bought a copy of A Town Called Alice this year, but I haven't picked it up yet.

Back from not attending the put-in, due to a huge blow-up with Doug Haverty.  I'd sent an e-mail saying I'd be able to get there on time and that I wanted to do act three so I could give notes to Barry's cover and then leave - no reason for me to be at a speed-through.  He'd sent an e-mail that I hadn't seen saying that I couldn't throw a curve ball, that people were showing up according to what act they were running.  Well, the first people I saw when I arrived were the Banjo and Lorraine, both of whom don't have to be there for the beginning.  Then he made the bad error of getting in my face about it and I blew up, and he made the worse mistake of telling me to leave the theater and not come back, and yet following me out when I said okie doke, and screaming at me.  I reminded him that I'd just come from a two-hour rehearsal, and that I am the director of this show, not him.  I then walked back in the theater, apologized to everyone for the blow-up, and took my leave.  And unless he apologizes to me by e-mailing the entire company, he will get his wish - I will not return to the theater, I will not show up tomorrow for the casting session, nor will I show up to any further performances of this show, and if I get really annoyed, he can find a new director for his play, which means he can find a replacement for Peyton, who won't do it if I'm not doing it.

I'm just going to calm down now and relax.

I'm sorry this happened. Vibes all gets straightened out soon.

I bought a few canvas prints today on Groupon for Dad's room. They were $3 apiece. The shipping cost was $10 apiece. Still, they should add a nice touch to his room. One was of my sister Brigitte and me from last Christmas. One was of my nephew Herman with his French horn. And the third was of Mom and Dad standing with a portrait of themselves.

Saw the preview for In the Heights tonight. It shows promise, but this is one movie musical in which totally in-sync choreography seems out of place. Latin music is perhaps too sensual for rigid, lockstep choreography. Still, I really enjoyed the show on stage and have hopes for the movie. I liked the sound of Jimmy Smits singing. I don't think I've heard him sing before.

I'm surprised I'm enjoying Being Human as much as I am. Robin Williams is wonderful in a series of stories, but it's the empathy I enjoy most.

Lovely.

Then dessert of either hot apple cobbler with ice cream or hot brownie with ice cream

The cobbler sounds good.  Aside from dessert and salad was there a vegetarian option?

I personally think A Town Like Alice is better than On the Beach.

I should read another Nevile Shute novel.  I enjoyed the 5 books I have read.  My Ashland library has a number of them to choose from.  I think I will read The Breaking Wave next.
