Fun bit of dialogue from a Cary Grant movie called Big Brown Eyes

Man 1: What would do if you bought a gift for a girl and she refused to accept it?

Man 2: I dunno. Give it to my wife?

Among the new DVD titles coming to the library is Samuel Barber's Vanessa. Have never seen this. Looking forward to it.

I saw City Opera do it years ago.  Hated it.  Stupid libretto, and I wanted to like the music but didn't much care for it.

Saturday afternoon greetings!

Should I pack some pandemic lit to take with me next week like Contagion or Love in the Time of Cholera?

Yes, Station Eleven.  Arts and culture prevail, more or less.

Who wrote the novel Contagion?  There are a number of books with the same title.

Did you check IMDB.com to see if it was based on a novel?

Ushered for the world premiere staged reading of the musical "Remember" about, what else?, the Alamo. The chorus had 100 voices, the symphony had 60 people playing. The composer conducted, and a decent set of voices led the charge.

I have not witnessed any panic food shopping, but my neighbor told me that he shopped several places online for face masks and everyone was sold out. Perhaps the panic is just with masks. Personally, I think people should take this seriously. Not panic, but think about what their needs are. Any of us could find ourselves quarantined. As Jane mentioned, if you have lived in an area that gets severe weather you've probably seen the last-minute run on the stores.

People were in tears at the end. The real Texans in the audience had heard the story since grade school, and they really got into it.

I found it sort of half-baked. There were a couple of songs that were effective, and the music was lush, thanks to the symphony, in that "Big Valley"/Copland kind of way. I don't think it has a future. Too much of it was too earnest and a little too cliched.

I find it interesting that so many people are concerned with masks. They do help some, but are hardly a panacea.

I did laundry earlier, then made a trip to the nearby salad bar. There are a couple more things I'd like to get done around the apartment, but we shall see.

We watched the 2011 movie with Matt Damon.  There is a 2002 film, different plot, with Bruce Boxleitner.

We discovered today that liquid hand sanitizer is sold out except for travel sizes.

Starting "Wings in the Dark," the last of the Cary Grant movies in this set. He costars with Myrna Loy. It's rather melodramatic, but those two are ridiculously good together.
