Back from my lunch and walk....

I went ahead and headed over to The Cupboard Too.  It was my first time there, but I have been to their original/parent location, The Cupboard, during my previous visits to Memphis.

I had a good lunch, but instead of a "meat and three" menu, it was more of a "meat and two" - just two side dish choices instead of three.  Now I'm just trying to remember if it's always been a "two" or if at one time it was a "three".  Or maybe it's just a "two" at the downtown location.

Follow me?  ;)

Well... For today's lunch, I had the Chicken Fried Steak, Corn Pudding and Italian Spinach (seasoned spinach mixed with some ricotta cheese).  And, of course, some Sweet Tea and the basket of corn muffins and yeast rolls that come with every meal.  Yummers!

I just noticed that my garbage can, under my desk here at work, smells very unseemly even though I just emptied it.

I felt very sorry for Anthony last night because he had his best vocal in three weeks and expected to hear plaudits and instead got putdowns from everyone especially Simon. I thought he was going to cry.

Since the sun was still shining and the sky cleared up, I decided to go for a walk along Front Street - which is basically the road that parallels the Mississippi River.  Not really much down there to see.  Even the view of the River is obscured by a mini-harbor and some industrial structures.

I did stop into the Elvis Presley-B.B. King Welcome Center.  It's basically a rest stop for those coming across the bridge from Arkansas.  There are two big bronze statues of, guess who, Elvis and B.B. inside, plus bathrooms and a tourist information booth.

Then I headed back up to Main Street and checked out the area not in the direction of the Orpheum Theatre.  Government buildings, Federal Reserve, Convention Center, and The Pyramid - basically a sports/concert venue that is sadly under utilized now as a result of the new FedEx basketball arena (Go Grizzlies!).  In any case...

As as I was coming to the end my loop, I came across three words plastered onto the side of a building...

Is there any book, short story, novella, etc. that you personally would like to turn into a musical?  Write the book and/or lyrics and/or music?
William Goldman's The Silent Gondoliers.  It's the right length of a story, with plenty of good humor.  Plus, there's the challenge of writing a musical around a lead character who cannot sing, yet making him musical in his heart.

The place is called Westy's.  Quite and interesting menu.  Lots of variety.  And their house specialty dessert is Hot Fudge Pie - which according to all the blurbs posted in the place, was voted The Best in Memphis.

So, I settled into a booth and ordered a glass of milk and a slice of the Hot Fudge Pie.  A few minutes later...

:D

Basically, it's like a warm slice of Chocolate Chess Pie, or a really fudgy brownie.  And topped with French Vanilla Ice Cream and whipped cream.  Very good, and surprisingly, not achingly sweet.  Rich, yes, but not feel-it-in-your-teeth sweet.  -I'm suspecting the ice cream was house-made too, especially since they also feature Boiled Custard and Eggnog on their dessert menu.

And since they're open until 3:00AM...

I have put in the special edition of STAR TREK: GENERATIONS for my next DVD film. I hope to get started watching it some later tonight even though it will go off when the wonderful LOST comes on.

The new TREK edition of this less than wonderful film has been outfitted with a new DTS soundtrack, so I can't WAIT to hear that.

Since I had my slice of Hot Fudge Pie, I went ahead and walked back to the hotel instead of taking one of the trolleys that run up and down Main Street.

;)

And it seems the threat of thunderstorms this afternoon has evaporated too!

:)

Oh, and I did take pictures while I was out walking.  I didn't take pictures of the Hot Fudge Pie itself, but I did take a pic of the sign.  Hopefully, I'll have pics to post in the next few days.

Had I means, I would like to produce a musical of William Goldman's "The Silent Gondoliers".

I hadn't read this yet when posting.  Can you tell we've been together for a number of years?

Favorite punchlines:

"99 nuns go, "Hehehehehe.  1 nun goes, "OH!!"

"Snowballs."

"Hmmmm, that's a hard one..."  -A blare of trumpets, confetti cannons go off, and The Gates of Heaven open.

-What can I say, I went to a private Catholic high school.

Ahh, the joys of technology!  Ended up with only a half day of work thanks to server problems back in Iowa.  Upside... afternoon off.  Downside... half a day of pay.  Oh well, just ups the chance of overtime pay coming up later!!!

And I can tie two threads together!

L.B. Mayer gets to heaven and starts cataloguing his accomplishments.   He gets to the end of the list and pauses.  St. Peter:  "Well, what about that Ginny Sims thing?"

Great DVD news, DR MBARNUM.  So many favorites.

I will be needing some EMPLOYMENT vibes starting on Friday - but I will remind you again, HHW'ers.

I recently spoke to my Dear Friend Suzanne in Dallas and encouraged her to come to HHW.  She is a marvelous person, a terrific director, actress, and vocalist!  Fingers crossed that she finds her way here.

"How should I know?  I just got here myself."

"We'll get you a seat in another car, and maybe we can find a banana for your monkey."

MBarnum, what's the URL for the Warner Video chat transcript?  I thought it was at Home Theater Forum, but I couldn't find it there.

Favorite punchlines:

Is this because I'm a lesbian?
Udaho.

We have a new one at our household based on a very unfortunate situation (we are politically incorrect, so read no further if you are easily offended, not that any of you are, LOL).  A couple we know just got back from vacation and it turns out the husband was arrested for soliciting a prostitute (I never liked the guy--just something off about him).  So, anyway, most of my recent interchanges with the DS have included lines like, "Honey, I'll be a little late tonight--I have to go solicit a prostitute."  To which the DS replies, "Just make sure to get a babysitter before you leave."

Has Sharon Stone been announced in a remake of Mildred Pierce?  A Crawford group I belong to is all a-twitter, but I can't figure out if it's wishful thinking or an actual new (old) movie.
