And of course there is the story that Joan Crawford once remarked on the bowl of water that Loretta Young walked on.

So it may be apocrophyl.

Isn't apocrophyl the active ingredient in Clorets?   ;)

Ok since its ask BK day, although it is of course open to all....

I heard this story once and I cannot remembe WHO the actress in question was:

It was a Broadway play and a young actress was bragging that she was upstaging the leading lady ( a very well known actress). The LL overheard this conversation and said  "I could upstage you without even being on the stage"

She proved her point at the next performance .  Upon exiting the stage she balanced a full wine glass on the very edge of a table upstage and on the opposite side of the downstage action, clearly visible to the audience, whose eyes were riveted on it, waiting for it to fall,  during the young actress' entire scene.

The Leading lady had of course, taken the precaution of placing  doublestick tape on the bottom of the wine glass.

Now, has anybody else here ever heard this story? Who was the leading lady? It's driving me crazy!!!!!

In the that explains a lot department, my Mom was a nurse and she used to bring me home empty (or so she said :) ) cans of ether to play with when I was a kid.  Don't ask me why, but I loved the smell of ether (in the morning--a Robert Duvall reference).

Sorry, but Mr. Sondheim would never resort to that sort of  false rhyme.  Miss her and sister don't rhyme.  Mister and sister rhyme.  Miss her and kiss her rhyme.

I was kidding.

Come to think of it, Mom always had prescription codeine cough medicine on hand for any given occasion.  It's all beginning to make sense now.....Getting sleepy, sleepier, must nap.....

Oh, you were KIDDING.  If you're KIDDING and there's no way for a person to know if you're KIDDING, put a little smiley in there, baby.

vixmom - I have one word for you - esnipe.  Go to esnipe.com.  You may register for free and you don't have to buy and "bid points" for quite a while - it's all free.  Once you register, you put in the number of your auction, put in your TOP or HIGHEST bid you're willing to pay and esnipe will bid automatically six seconds before the auction ends.  Never fails.

Jed, did you tell us that you got a job? Did I miss this news???

This is the 4-week temp position I have with Pearson Educational Measurement, scoring standardized tests (specifically the Ohio 4th grade writing assessment).  Looks like there's a good chance of extending an extra two weeks, scoring parts of the ACT college entrance exam at that time.  Also a chance of doing the Washington state standardized test (not sure if it'd be 4th, 7th, or 10th grade) in late May-mid June.

A little bit at a time, but sure as heck beats nothing! :D

Isn't DR Jed working at a temp job grading tests?  I seem to remember him telling us about it a week or so ago and that he would be rooming with DR Ann for the duration of the job.

Well remembered, vixmom!

Well folks, the vacation is over.  Tomorrow, reality sets back in.  Sigh.

I had one last fleeting surprise from my wonderful vacation.  I was cleaning out my purse and came across the attached.   Are you impressed?  Can anyone tell me what it is?

Hickeys.  I must say that I also have never given nor received one.

Danise I hope the first impression with your new neighbors is misleading and all turns out well.

I never heard of anyone having to purchase two burial sites.  It must have been a prime location you wanted.

Good luck with the bus service.  Are you the only one who uses that stop?

Well, I hope things aren’t as bad as my first impression of them.  Somehow, I don’t think so.

I don’t know about “prime location”.  It is in the Veterans section of the cemetery.  Only a couples of spaces down and to the left of where my Dad is buried.

No, I’m not the only one who uses that stop.  I got a “Thank you for you input” reply from HARTLINE.  I wrote them again.

Ok Jennifer and JRand54, I watched the first half of ATR...whew, quite an emotional episode! And I was pretty worried there at the end...didn't want my favorite team getting the ax! Poor Gretchen...she really looked like she'd gone through a meat grinder! She just makes me smile everytime I see her, though!

And before I go, might I just say - HICKEY!

Hisaka, Keith found more information on the wild turkeys.  It seems you were correct when you asked about the male.  Read the following:

Wild Turkeys travel in small flocks. For most of the year, they are single-sex flocks. Females are with females, males with males. Young turkeys follow their mothers.
Wild Turkeys have good eyesight and hearing, and they are very fast runners. The breeding season is in March and April. A male turkey will try to find a female flock to make his harem.  To attract females, the male will gobble and strut, fanning out his tail. He will mate with several females in the flock.
Wild turkey nests are made in the ground. A shallow depression is lined with leaves and covered up with vines and other plants. Ten to fifteen eggs are laid. Eggs are light brown, with black and dark brown spots. The female will sit on the eggs for a month or more. This makes her very vulnerable to predators
