Well, I guess The Solid Gold Cadillac in spirit is true to the play, sorta, kinda, in plot. But the original leading lady on Broadway was Josephine Hull, then in her 70s, so completely re-written by Abe Burrows for Miss Holliday and a romance added between her and the Paul Douglas character that obviously didn't exist on Broadway. The play was a really big hit back then at 536 performances or thereabouts.
