Oh, I'm up, I'm up - six-and-a-half hours of sleep.  She of the Evil Eye is here so I'll go do stuff and return at noon.

There were a few memorable ones before and after that, but that will probably remain as the best of all possible celebrations

Someone here organized a rolling parade, in which all participants remained in their cars.  It went down Central Avenue and we watched it from our family room.

DR JRand, I think we relinquished perks like that 244 years ago today...

In Baltimore once I had what was called on the menu - the Seafood Rainbow.....when it came it was a huge platter with clams, lobster, shrimp, a couple of kinds of fish, some vegetables, and I don't know what all else.....but it cost about $100 including the wine I had.....

I'm almost positive that my most expensive meals were those paid for on business expense accounts. So I don't have any prices to quote, but we sure ate in some great places.

DR Laura mentioned the Blue Bayou at Disneyland. I'll betcha my truly most expensive meal was the one had upstairs from there, in Club 33, on someone else's private membership. I know those memberships used to cost in the thousands per year, so it's probably billions now. An incredible experience, with acres of wonderful food to die for.

Speaking of which, I see I just passed a good one. But I've always said I'm no good at watching those.

TOD - on my first visit to Paris in 2011 we stayed in a hotel around the corner from Cafe Voltaire.  We’d had a quick lunch there at a sidewalk table and decided a few days later to go inside for dinner.  Well, that was an entirely different story, price-wise!  I don’t know exactly how much it cost and I don’t remember exactly what we ate, but it was worth every Euro!

From DR George:
Quote
My dad's family moved to California when he was maybe six or seven.  I don't think that he's ever been back.

Do you think he would have returned for a visit if you lived there for 5 1/2 years?

Back from my travels, which included leaving the Valley for the first time since February.  Took a long and fascinating drive, about which more in the notes.

Am almost through part 3 of 4 of Lonesome Dove. It really is a good story that's been well told here.

T.O.D.

I don't recall ever having an "expensive meal".

I've dined at fine restaurants in Los Angeles and elsewhere, but the check was nothing that stood out.

Maybe if I drank alcohol...

Alcohol does add to the bill.

DR Jane I think that you are right to be cautious with covid cases going up. There is no way that I would get on a plane right now.  I like the idea of renting an RV.

If you went there now would you even be able to go into your son's home?  If he doesn't have a yard then would you have to meet only at public places?

I am relieved that in Quebec (8 million people) the number of new cases for the last week have been between 65 and 90 per day. And thankfully most people are wearing masks in stores. But I'm still nervous going out (which I only started doing recently).  Hopefully the numbers will go down where you are.

There is a park near them they go to and Frejya likes the feel of the grass :)

They are fine with us inside their place.  We are the ones who are nervous.

My Canadian friends talk about people wearing masks and mostly practicing social distancing, which is why the numbers in Canada have been better.  It seems countries that are cautious are far better off than those that are not.  Proof to me that masks do work.

How are they being enforced?

That is what Keith said when I was excited Chicago issued a travel warning.  If they had done that before we cancelled I might not have cancelled.  Keith said it wouldn't have mattered to him as they can't enforce it.

My sister was not featured on the news last night....nor were her photos.

The news people chose the most outrageous of the folks on each side to interview.  It was NOT pretty.

Of course  >:(

TOD: The most expensive meal I have eaten was probably at the Blue Bayou in the Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland.

I had the jambalaya, which was way too spicy for me. Was it worth it? Probably not. But that was an item on my bucket list.

It has been years since we ate there.  I recall the last time we were there being surprised how much it had gone up, but then all of Disneyland was more expensive.
