Sandra says the best part about the whole Disneyland trip was the look on Wae-Ling's face when the server poured her a refill of her mint julep. She emptied her drink a few times, and he poured her a cup to go, as well.

Awww, that was sweet of them to give her one for the road.  It is good she has a young bladder.

Today is Leonard's birthday. Well, we celebrate it on July 4. His Gotcha Day is early October, and he was about three months old then.

Have been listening to music.  I did go to the mail place but they seem to be closed for the entire weekend, which is a little problematic since two packages are arriving tomorrow.

Thatch and I watched Miss Marple, and I've now fed the cays.  Annabelle pulled her usual diva act and turned up her nose at dinner offered.  I turned my back to climb a ladder in the kitchen, and when I finished, I found her eating Thatch's dinner.

I find this funny considering what is going on these days.

Statue of George III being toppled on 9th July in New York. 1776.

Well, I made a Texas ranch style of potato salad -- new potatoes with an oil-vinegar dressing when it's hot. Then you add celery, green onions, herbs, diced dill pickle and a mayo-mustard-sour cream dressing.

It has to cool off for a while.

The potato salad sounds good except for the pickle.

Now I am in the mood for deviled eggs.

For dinner I made swiss mushroom cheeseburgers.  They turned out quite nicely.

I asked Keith if he remembers the most expensive meal we have had.  We have been unable to find the name of the restaurant or remember what we spent.  It was in a little house, set back in a driveway, on an out of the way street when we lived in Michigan.  Everyone kept telling us to go for our anniversary.  Once inside the ambiance, food, & service were perfect.  We enjoyed our special treat but never returned.

Keith spent an exorbitant amount for a pizza at Pizza Hut in Moscow.

In Japan he met a local for business at the hotel.  Two drinks, a few chips and dip was $100.

My friend Glenn loved foie gras. He ordered it everywhere we went that offered it. Foie gras club sandwich, foie gras burger, seared foie gras, you name it. Everything but pate. Well, a group of about 12 of us decided to get together for a foie gras dinner for his 70th birthday. We did buy a lot of it -- I think it was $75 a pound back then -- and then we made dishes for a potluck around it. I have no idea what that would cost a person these days.

None of us had ever cooked it, so we didn't think about the grease that would soon go flying. Thankfully, the friend who volunteered her kitchen had child-proofed it for her grandkids. And cleanup proved easier than we had thought.

I remember making an Italian white bean and colossal shrimp salad as my dish. My dish alone ran to more than $50, and this was maybe 15 years ago. And I didn't like it. (I do now. It needs to sit longer. I assembled it there.)

Another $50 or so for a bottle of wine to share made that one of the more expensive dinners I recall that were really worth the price.

A friend gave me one of these Polish deviled egg dishes a couple of years ago, jane. Mine holds only four eggs, which is much more manageable than the one for a dozen that Mom passed on to me. Mine's a little different. It has a bird in the middle instead of a bunny. But it has prompted me to make deviled eggs a little more often than I used to. I try new variations when i can. Today's had no pickle in it. But it has Worcestershire sauce, vinegar and Old Bay seasoning for a little kick.

I love the dish.  It would be fun to eat off of.   Is that four full eggs or four halves?  Four eggs is a lot to eat at once.  It would be perfect if Keith still ate deviled eggs.

DR John G., that potato salad sounds fantastic. Pass some over here, please.

But you’re right - the variations are endless, and many can be so damned good.
