Has anyone else ever noticed that on films scored by Max Steiner - at the point that his credit comes up on the screen there is ALWAYS either a tempo change or a drum and cymbal crash or some other tag in the music?

My bottom permanent retainer just broke loose on one side. I thought it was feeling a bit loose from the getgo. Good thing I am going back in to get my upper retainer tomorrow anyway...

DRMBARNUM - I do not know how the television screens of the time handled such pulchritude - but both Miss Allison Hayes AND Miss Joi Lansing were featured in a Four Star Playhouse 11/17/55 episode entitled "Here Comes the Suit". Allison was David Niven's co-sar and Joi is mentioned in the supporting cast!

It was a lucky thing for viewers that there was no 3-D on television!

BTW: I would give my right leg for a copy of that episode!!!

I would love to see it myself, but it doesn't seem to be on any of the Four Star Playhouse collections. If any DR has any of them on VHS or DVD, maybe he/she will check for us.

Re: Reefer Madness. I can't remember exactly where it was (Broadway.com?), but there was a forum thread on the two Reefers (so to speak) that got very acrimonious but was hilarious (for me, anyway). I can't remember if it was Murphy or Studney who actually started posting on it, defending their work (one of my favorite quotes was someone accusing them of only knowing three chords, at which point they posted the changes to a song which had--wait for it--four chords in it). But then it degenerated into something to do with AFM (which, frankly, I can't remember), with, again, either Murphy or Studney saying his boyfriend was dressing up as a giant rat outside the theater every night in protest. (Are we not in Kansas anymore, Toto?).

Anyway, there were several nice posts on the thread about the GTP score, which I was amazed at, since most of the people seemed to be NYC-ers.

I think I've mentioned this before, but... "Ribbons Down My Back" has to be my least favorite song to hear and play at auditions. It just annoys me, and it's very hard to make those melody and lyrics sound anything but... well, desperate, for lack of a better word right now.

And then there are the young women who come in and mimic the vocal quality of the actress/dubber in the movie. Worse than nails on a chalkboard!

DR CP - a couple of days ago you mentioned the Ramon Novarro house designed by Lloyd Wright (son of Frank) is in your neighborhood. I seem to remember a photo spread (maybe in Architectural Digest) of the house when Keaton lived there and I didn't like the "improvements" either.

Here is a photo of the house from 1932 when Ramon moved in. Maybe next time you and Tewkes are strolling by, you can snap a photo of the house for us as it is today.
