I wish I had waited up front; but BK is usually so prompt and we've never had a foul-up like this before (But I reiterate, it was entirely MY fault!), so I didn't think twice when they led me to a table; by the time I had had a diet coke and eaten some bread, I felt obligated to eat there.

It's times like these, I wish I had a cell phone.

If any of you L.A. area Dear Readers (or lurkers) have a chance, I wish you would try to go see NATIONAL PASTIME at the Fremont Centre Theatre in Pasadena.  This is the play that I did here in Tacoma, in January, prior to its profesional theater premiere.  I played Branch Rickey in the show, which involves the breaking of the color barrier in baseball.  I would be very interested to know what any of you think of the play.

I felt bad about the Musso foulup - although I'm GLAD it wasn't my foulup, because, these days, that's the sort of thing I worry about - being totally senile and not showing up when I'm supposed to.

Now, just where is Jessica Skerritt?

Well, Scott did not go home on AMERICAN IDOL tonight. That's all I'll say. As always, surprises abound on the show, one of the reasons it's an addiction for me.

Watched another POIROT hour long mystery today - "The Dream." I only have one more left and I will have seen the entire series on DVD.

I have selected my movie for tomorrow (if I get through the TV I've recorded): THE TERMINAL.

Matt!  You aren't suppose to tell me that.  I want to watch REVELATIONS content with the thought that Scott went home.

A friend brought over his HDTV cable box which has an HDMI connection on the back of it. (My cable box uses component video jacks for HDTV.) I had read that HDMI is preferable to component jacks since it's a pure digital signal going from one device to the other. Component jacks are an analog connection that are converted to digital signals along the line. Supposedly, HDMI (and its father, a DVI connection) generate a better picture.

After hooking up the various cables, we did a switch to switch comparison using CBS' high definition soap opera THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS for comparison. Yes indeed, using the HDMI connection generates a picture that is ever so slightly crisper and sharper than using the component jacks for the connection. I also switched over to HBO-HD to see if a high def film would show any difference as opposed to high def videotape from the soap opera we had just watched.

HBO-HD was showing SCOOBY DOO 2. It's a very colorful movie, and once again, I found the HDMI to be just a touch crisper and more solid.

So, I guess at some point soon, I'll be switching my cable box for one with an HDMI connection.

Speaking of Broadway, just got back from quite a show, the soon-to-be Tony winning THE PILLOWMAN, which is just one of the most original of shows. I mean, a crazy blend of the darkest of dark tragedy and giddy comedy. I'll not reveal much for those who may see it, but it is like a kinetic Kafkaesque piece made bright by very alive performances. Billy Crudup doesn't miss a beat as the lead, a guy arrested in an unnamed country for crimes yet unknown to him. Jeff Goldblum and Zeljko Ivanek quite solid as two investigators. Great performances all around. The play really keeps one off balance throughout in its near revelry in the heartbreak of innocence lost, at times so over the top that you have to laugh, even as you find you are laughing at horrific things. Other times the horror is simply horror, and just when you begin to descend into the darkness, some offbeat quip is thrown in to keep you on your toes. It's a real fascinating ride down tricky tracks, nearly unclassifiable, the way all great things should be.

Rodzinski, glad to hear the play in performance lives up to my idea of it when I read.  I concur with most of your observations about it.  It's great, great stuff!

SARTORIAL, baby, SARTORIAL!

Watching Captain Blood at the moment.  Earlier watched a fascinatingly strange Sidney Lumet film that never had much of a release, called The Offence.  More about that later.  For now, the Jacuzzi, like the Inspector, Calls.

I am curious, Pogue, how it changed from the page to the stage. There were aspects that struck me as more British than American, but this worked with the non-specificity of the locale. I wonder how much the lighter aspects were director-actor choices, because one could imagine a rather relentlessly dark version of this rather easily using roughly the same dialogue.

In any case, there is a depth to the piece that will probably take a few days for me to mentally process!

So re: TABITHA THE DVD.  Mr BK will your compensation be based on sales, your original salary, or SAG compensation rules?

Rodzinski, I never saw the play.  It was something I had wanted to see but was no longer playing in London when I was there, so I picked up the play.  As it premiered in London (with Jim Broadbent in the lead) it would naturally be more British than American.  I think the playwright is actually Irish.  It was just such a devastating read.

I'm sure the resid is based on whatever platform they have for DVD - I haven't really been a part of SAG (on withdrawal for years) so I don't have a clew as to what those rates might be.

Good Evening!

Well, most everything is ready for the movers to move tomorrow.  Steve's new place is on the fourth floor of newly converted building - used to be a warehouse space - and, strangely enough, there's only ONE elevator in the place.  Not even a freight elevator for the maintenance crew.  So, Steve decided, and wisely so, to hire professional movers for this move.  This way, they can deal with the one elevator and the couple of twists and turns into his apartment.

We got a lot of work done, and Steve's sister really pulled her share of the workload - and with her current health condition - bad leg, bad knee, bad hip - that's saying something!  But she actually loves "moving" - she and her husband moved almost every 18 months for the first couple years of their marriage due to work commitments - so she's the "family expert".

Steve treated us to dinner at Tiki-Tiki.  It was good, and just not spicy enough so that Becky could actually eat most of the food.  She has a very "gentle" palate.  However, I have to say, the eggroll had to be one of the better ones I've had in a while - not too much cabbage, and nice chunks of shrimp and roast pork.  Seemed house made rather than from food service purveyor.

We made it back from dinner in time to catch the last half of the "American Idol" results show.  Hmmm..  Surprising indeed!  And I have to wonder if they will make all the bottom three in each upcoming show do what they did tonight.  Interesting.... We shall discuss more anon....

So, I got back here around 1:00am, washed the dishes, and then washed all the dust off myself, and now I'm here....

I've read a few interviews with the cast and creative team, and they did mention that a few textual tweaks were made during the rehearsal process for this "American" version.  But from what I gather, the general tone of the piece was there from the beginning, and that the moments of "light" are what makes it a comedy, albeit a very, very, very, very dark one.

As for E-bay...

Well, for me, right now, it's gonna come down to how much time do I want to devote to getting things ready for sale - and then getting things packed and shipped once they are sold.

I have a feeling I'll just set aside of a few boxes of "possibilities", then once I'm back up in DC with Mamma Mia! in May, then I can start "getting rid" of them in the manner of my choosing.

There really is stuff I want to keep, but there is also stuff I know I just bought at the time since I thought it would be neat to have.  There are window cards for shows I never saw, things like that.  So, as I am wont to say... We shall see...

*And I really want to take "everything" up to NYC when I make the move this summer.  I am going to try my best not to have anything in storage - a.k.a. out of sight, out of mind.

I swear, if there is a worse Internet provider than AOL I haven't seen it.  All day things have been spazzing out, worse than ever.  Slow as molasses, freezing every time you got to a website that actually has graphics - I mean, they ought to just fold up their tent and go home.

What do I keep telling you? Don't browse via AOL.  Use Safari.   And since you have a cable modem/wireless set-up...

;)

What I've started doing when I have access to a wireless modem setup, is to just open iChat which uses your AOL Buddy List settings.  It's less "intrusive", and unlike AOL, it actually was made for Mac rather than "transferred" over from Windows/PC.  -And then I just use Safari for web surfing.

However, Steve - who deals with computer networks for a living - did mention to me today that there is a lot of "spring cleaning" going on with the major ISPs right now.  A few minutes - or even a few hours - of slowness- may be normal.  Of course, the ISPs will not mention that on their websites.  Ah, well...
