In other news, it looks like a good week at the Met.

I'll take a pass on The Barber of Seville and Tannhäuser, but Wednesday brings Verdi's Macbeth which I have never seen. That's a must, as will be Falstaff, maybe a little of Der Rosenkavalier on Saturday, and La fanciulla del West on Sunday because I've never seen that one either.

Falstaff is my favorite Verdi opera and a brilliant stage farewell for its 80+ year-old composer, who closes the piece with an enormous fugue as if to say to all, I still got it! I hope the Met is showing the gorgeous Zeffirelli production rather than their current Robert Carsen one, which is set in modern dress. Some divas look better in period clothes.

The Met DVD is now out of print and worth tracking down.

And by the way, that Tannhauser is also a wonderful production.

Youtube has the excellent Gotz Friedrich film version with the great French baritone Gabriel Bacquier as Sir John Falstaff and a good 1970s cast of singers.

I also enjoyed watching The Barbara Stanwyck Show for her. The quality varied from show to show, but was really good.

I also like what I’ve seen from Omnibus, such as the Orson Welles King Lear and the Bernstein programs.

I saw that Met Falstaff in 1986 and it was stunning. This one is from 1992, same production. I'll have to look for that DVD. I think I have it on laser, but every little bit of technology advance helps. Hmmm, same with that Tannhäuser, methinks.

I did standing room for the Met Tannhäuser in the 1990s, and it's a glorious production. Weikl and Troyanos who are on the video were in the performance I saw, maybe Cassilly as well.

I watched a lot of anthology shows as a kid - two short-lived shows I loved were Panic and Way Out (Roald Dahl hosted and it aired before The Twilight Zone). I also really liked One Step Beyond.

Your decision is the right one, and Poe had a good long life with you. Of course, knowing this does not take away from the pain. I just hope it give you all some comfort.

And replace the Secretary of State. It is a position I never really thought of before, or understood how close this person is to becoming our governor. If something happens to the governor the Lieutenant Governor steps up. If something happens to the Lieutenant Governor than the Secretary of State becomes the new governor.

We had a Secretary of State become governor many years ago. She was a breath of fresh air at the time. So much turmoil in those days.

Oddly, Rob Berman and DR Elmore's adopted son Joshie were in my dream last night. I can't bring back much of what was happening, but something about a rare piece of music that Rob was going to conduct, and with my completely accidental help, they were able to listen to a rare recording of it in a car with a special player in a parking lot somewhere in the city. Oy.

I didn't list my favorite anthologies, but I must thank BK for naming Way Out, a very important show for me in its one short season. Creepy to the nth degree.

Off the top of my head, though, I don't remember if I knew the show called Panic. I'll look it up.

Panic, when it was good, was REALLY good. I saw several episodes when it aired and since it wasn't a hit it was never available again and yet I could recall every detail of every episode I saw - years later, some 16mm prints showed up for sale and I grabbed two or three of the them and they were episodes I'd seen and every detail was exactly as I remembered. I think some of them are available on tape or DVD - not great copies but fun to watch.
