I am not on FB with DR FJL.  Through a mutual friend he has sent the following message.  I have been wondering why we haven't heard from him.

Hi Jane, hope you're well. I see others from the other site even BK, but can't sign in from this phone, and the business center situation seems not right for signing in there in terms of privacy of some of the hhw members who are not public. I did change my FB photo to an HHW gathering and try to remember to read there. See you all when back in NY after Labor Day or before if internet situation changes.

I talked to a friend who knows more than I do about the updating process. He reminds me that I can go to the App Store and click on Updates, and that will show me which apps have updates to install. On that screen you can also choose to update one or more of them right away.

As far as the OS is concerned, he "swears" that Apple will never change to the next one without me specifically choosing it. They're only doing security updates and bug fixes on what we already have.

For what that's worth.  :)

DR Elmore probably already knows this much or more. I needed it, though.

The zoom funeral has ended. Both Rosenda and her husband have had careers in video, and that certainly helped. The intro was a lifetime of pictures with several songs in the background. Then came a brief video with clips from her news career. The service itself was a little different in that there was no music, only a series of readings, the homily and the prayers at the end. Both of her sons read, one offered a passage from the Bible and the other had some memories of his mother. There were a few shots of the audience. Everyone was socially distanced and wore masks throughout. The Episcopalian priest who performed the ceremony also put on his mask when her sons came up to speak. The priest knew Rosenda well, which made his homily all the more touching.

A very brief rain is happening. The first time in weeks and weeks. All of the plants have suddenly perked up.

For $100, he should deliver it with some nice stuff in the drawers.

I just heard from the seller, and he will need to rent a zip car for around $20.  I told him I'd pay him $130 if he will deliver.  I really really really need a new chest of drawers!

That's not quite true.  When I open the App Store, the only updates showing are the last two installed, not the ones to be installed.

This appears to be a change when I upgraded to Mojave OS 10.14.6 and wiped out my iTunes.

Yeah, same here. But the only update I have pending is the change to Catalina, which I'm ignoring, and it looks like the App Store doesn't include OS changes (?). I'll try to remember to check occasionally, maybe weekly, and see how it behaves going forward.

DR TCB, here's a video about the death of Bob the Street Cat.  As far as I'm concerned running over an animal is murder, intentional or not.

25,000 people are watching the live stream of Aeschylus's The Persians from the amphitheater at Epidarus. That's wonderful. l was at that theater in October of last year.

Is this the modern dress one or the Zeffirelli?

Just to be clear, because the media's click-bait headlines are working overtime, they didn't "shoot" a reporter in the sense that they'd like you to believe - they "shot" tear gas and the canister hit her hand - no injuries, walked away.  I HATE click-bait headlines.

What did everyone do before Zoom?  Because I never heard the word Zoom before this pandemic began  in March.  So, Zoom has effectively ended Skype?  And Face Time?

Zeffirelli, for sure.  1992.

Good question about Zoom.

I have a Zoom audio recorder and I know they make interfaces and the like. Shall I assume they're the company behind...
uh, you know... Zoom?

I've never heard of Zoom.

And, the only time I've used Skye is when I had to talk with actors in the UK who were doing audio versions of my one-person plays, e.g. (Errol) FLYNN, (Basil) RATHBONE & MISS AUDREY HEPBURN.

I've never used Skype or Facetime.

And thus far I've only used Zoom to sit in on a couple of webinars. In neither case did I or the other participants have to be seen.

The production of the Persians was excellent, and it was staged with appropriate social distancing without losing any impact. The choreography of the chorus was particularly effective. The live production had up to 27,000+ visitors and down to 22,700 was the lowest I saw.

But the coolest was to be able to see a production in that magnificent theater.

We used Skype and Skype for Business up until everyone had to work from home. Then some of the meetings with more than 250 people began to show the severe limitations of Skype. Audio problems began. You could not use video with more than, say, 10.

Then after that, audio and video problems began for smaller groups. I think Skype was just maxed out.

So, we're moving to Zoom. At least, once our technical department was convinced we could use it safely and securely without possible outside interference or hacking. It's a big issue with us. They've started small. Somehow I managed to get into the initial phase, which was meant for 1,500. It was supposed to have rolled out companywide in July, but that hasn't happened yet.
