Last night we watched Murder By Decree, which I hadn't seen since I watched in on VHS around thirty years ago. I remembered next to none of it except for the asylum sequence with Genevieve Bujold. It wasn't as frightening as I remembered. I liked Plummer and Mason as Holmes and Watson and the rest of the cast, but it's a dark and sad movie, given the poverty and misery of the victims and the now-debunked theory of government-sanctioned murder. As a film I liked the gaudier A Study In Terror more.

The Met offers a free 7-day trial. On day Six, July 29, I cancelled; I honestly was underwhelmed by what was available. The Met responded with an email saying they would respond within 48 hours, and this morning $14.99 was deducted from my bank account because they did not cancel in time. I just sent them an unpleasant email.

That's tempting now and then, but I, too, never quite get to where paying that money out makes sense. I'm just enjoying the free nightly stream for now.

I decided to do the laundry. While I was wrestling the full laundry cart out my door to the hall. Stella ran under the wheels and escaped. The damned cat is now somewhere in the building, so I went ahead and put the laundry into the washers. Now she's on the firsrt floor hiding under the stairs and I cannot get to her. I worry there might be roach or rat poson under there. Shit.

Just before I went down to the basement to do another load of laundry, I decided to look for Stella. I got to One and I could hear her crying somewhere in the building. I went up to Two, I could hear her crying from the stairwell. I went to Three and called her. Nothing. Up to Four: she wasn't there and no sounds from her. Up to Five: not a peep. This frightened me.

I went back to One and called her. She came down the stairs and right to me. The Prodigal Cat is now home.

MR BK mentioned Roman Polanski's THE TENANT the other day. I had just watched it for the first time.

It was everything that he said.....I may watch it again.

I also watched Jacques Demy's LOLA for first time. It was very good. I then watched MODEL SHOP.....again.

Now that I have seen LOLA, I like MODEL SHOP much, much better.....but it is very sad......
