Bobby Rydell was more successful with an Australian version of his "Kissin' Time".

I need to get out more!

Say, Tomovoz, you seem very knowledgable about American pop music. What I wonder is, what percentage of pop music in Australia was from the US, back when music was better, say, in the 60s and 70s. I know a lot was from England too. Just wonder what was the breakdown of US vs British vs Homegrown Australian artists.

Did Aussie charts reflect England's pretty much or were they very different. And who are some of the biggest Australian groups that people never heard of here?

I found a CD by a band called Skyhooks that was apparently very popular in the 70s, but I've never known anyone besides me who knows of them.

Useless trivia. Tony Hatch and Jackie Tent adapted "England Swings" and released "Australia Swings". It made not a ripple.

Useless until it turns up as the $250,000 question on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?  :)

Sorry Tom - will have to reply in detail later.  Visitors!
Skyhooks were a Melbourne Band.  Lead singer died a couple of years ago.
1955 - 1963 Our top 40 would have been 80% USA origin.

Will PM later - or tomorrow!

Good Evening!

Greetings from Steve's new place.  We spent a good chunk of time putting the shelving units together in his bedroom.  I guess you could say we screwed until we couldn't screw anymore.  At least he had an electric one.  Screwdriver, that is.

-Yes, that was for you, DR TCB.

;D

We headed out for dinner - Benny's BBQ.  This is a place I've passed many, many times, but never went in - even though the "smoke" wafting from the place always tempted me while I was driving.  Very good, and very cheap.  And LOTS of food.  We both had the chopped pork BBQ platters.  Really good hush puppies.  And for dessert, of course, Steve had the pecan pie, and I had the bread pudding (which was topped with whipped cream and a drizzle of lemon curd!).  Very good.

And now we're back at his place getting some more boxes unpacked... We'll he's doing the unpacking now since I'm on his computer, and posting here, so...

;)

DR Iris - Thanks for the The Audience reports about my friends.  Sean was my Monty in Violet - wonderful!  And Shannon was my Reno in my Anything Goes buss & truck tour.

And it's great to know that Jack's company has been having some success.  I had hoped to catch his First Lady Suite last season.

DR Jennifer - Some digital cameras are low-resolution - especially the ones you can buy hanging on a rack at the drug store.  ;)

Additionally, some people will set the resolution to a lower setting in order to store more pics on their camera's memory card.  And sometimes they don't realize by setting the number of pics stored to "more" that they are affecting the resolution of their pics.  I also have a few friends who keep their cameras on low resolution since their main purpose for taking the pics is to post them to the web or to e-mail them, not to print them out.

Have your tried an online place like Ofoto - which is now Kodak Picture Gallery or something like that, Snapfish, etc.  Some of those sites will "fill-in" lower resolution pics if you want a larger size of print.  Sometimes the results are OK, and sometimes not OK.  But since you can preview the pic online, you're not wasting any money.

I never understood what's the big deal about Sweet Charity and who is going to star in it or not.

Not as if there has been an Applegate on Broadway before!

Isn't that right Joe?

I have listening to the Lost In Boston albums. I have to leave a vote for Karen Morrow's rendition of Who Gave You Permission? (Ballroom) as one of the best vocal performances on the four volumes. It is so moving.

Elmoore is that one of yours?

Finished watching RAGE OF THE WEREWOLF. DR Rodzinski does a fine job of acting the part of Ralph, the sidekick to a "good" wolf man...However, it would appear that a lot of mannequins gave their lives for this movie!

And why no bloop reel on this DVD (like on the Alien Conspiracy one), Rodzinski???

Back from our session - Grant had to cancel our dinner part of the evening, so I stopped at Taco Bell and brought home some stuff.  The final song, which I narrowed down to two possibilities, has, I think been chosen.  One was a ballad the other an up, and I was concerned that there were just too many ballads.  We recorded the up tonight, in a twin piano version (I'm a HUGE fan of that two-piano sound), and I really liked it.  So, barring any changes of mind, that's what will make the album.  If not, we'll do a live recording of the ballad with just Guy and Grant.

In fact, the only REALLY bad thing I ate were the french fries, but there weren't many of those.

The only thing good we ate tonight were the sweet potato fries.  This from one of our favorite restaurants in town-very disappointing!  We wish the new Indian restaurant had opened already-maybe next week.  Except next week we shall be eating Indian food at one of our favorite restaurants in Portland.

We are taking a very quick trip to celebrate Keith’s birthday with Bryan.  Unfortunately our trip will not allow an HHW get-together, this time anyway.   We will be spending most of the time with Bryan and getting to know his new girlfriend.

Off to watch something.  Ladder 49 arrived from Netflix so we might watch that.  I think Numbe3s is on tonight.  We will decide in a few minutes.

Nobody here but us chickens.  You'd think it was a Friday night or something.  Nine o'clock and the jernt is deserted.  I think my jernt is going to be desserted, for I now have a sweet tooth after my Taco Bell.

And just where in tarnation IS Jessica Skerritt?

Back from PROOF (and we had dinner afterwards). The play was funnier than I was expecting, and I really liked ALL of the scenes between the father and daughter. They were my favorite parts of the play.

Oh, congrats DR Jed for getting Charlie Davenport. You and TCB should have a blast doing this show together. We'll expect reports and, when the time comes, picture galore.

I liked THE TERMINAL. Tom Hanks gave one of his patented sure-fire performances of innocence and pathos. But the character that the sensational Stanley Tucci was stuck with was such a stock villain, mean and vindictive simply to add the conflict the plot would have otherwise lacked. I was VERY disappointed that more thought wasn't given to writing a more versatile character for such a versatile actor to play.

Just watched a couple films on the ol' Fox Movie Channel and IFC.

The former was a film by Pogue's late friend Douglas Hickox, entitled SKY RIDERS. Coburn and Culp together in one film, that is a must see. Also a character actor I like named Steven Keats. And Charles Aznavour. The movie is an excuse to have a lot of hang gliding footage over beautiful Greek locations, and as such, is breathtaking. Culp's family is kidnapped by Greek terrorists, Coburn and his crew hangglide to the rescue. The scenes of Coburn— not a stuntman— clinging to a helicopter spinning out of control are pretty amazing. Enjoyable music by Lalo Schifrin.

The IFC film was AT CLOSE RANGE. Quite well-made film, if a bit downbeat. "Live to Tell" probably Madonna's finest song.

Pet peeve: Okay, I don't watch movies on commercial tv unless I have to, but here you have a non-commercial, supposedly film-buff oriented channel in IFC, and they immediately interrupt the closing credits with noisy-promos that take up half the screen. I wonder why unions don't protest the shrinking of credits to unreadable status. But beyond that, I consider the closing credits part of the film and I don't like to have them interrupted so callously. End pet peeve.

MBarnum- I did not know there was a bloop reel on any of those. I think I only have that one on VHS.  You may be confusing the actual film itself with the blooper reel. There probably isn't much of a difference! :)

I enjoyed ROUNDING THIRD very much.  Very well directed and very well acted.  The boys messed up the macarena royally - BUT that was okay, who's to say their characters could do it anyway.

Yes, I would recommend this play to HHW'ers if it shows up in the neighborhood, and woudl encourage male HHW'ers of ages 20's & 30's to go to auditions if a notice shows up.
