Well, you've read the notes, the notes have drifted your way, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which will be as soon as they get my drift - sometime around the twelfth of never.

FESTOON, baby, FESTOON!

Well, since it's the ATTACK OF THE WUSSBURGERS, I may as well toddle off to the bedroom environment, where I shall hopefully catch up on the sleep I lost last night.

I got back from Patti's concert at about 12:45 a.m. or so.  The concert itself was about 2 hours to 2 hours and 15 minutes...I forget what time we actually got out.  I went back to my ex-boyfriend's apartment after the show and got my stuff that I brought, then I went to Tower Records (I bought for only $9.99, on sale from $16.99, Harry Nilsson's "The Point" and for $16.99 "Love's Fowl," a new musical by Henry Krieger).

Anyway, Patti's show was called "Matters of the Heart," the CD for which had our very own BK as "Executive Producer for Varèse Sarabande."  They were selling that CD in the lobby before the show.  She sang most songs on the CD...the one that I can remember that she didn't sing was "Playbill" (written by John Bucchino) and it's one of my favorite songs on the CD.  But there was such a wide variety of songs that it wasn't really missed.  She had two acts and one costume change.  It was incredible.  She just had a piano and a string quartet who sang a bit during the show and sang doo-wop back up to a fabulous doo-wop arrangement of "Just the Way You Look Tonight," which was the encore.  She never stopped.  She sang, she talked, she told a few stories, she made the audience laugh and cry.  Afterwards, she came into the lobby and signed CDs!  I had brought my "Matters of the Heart" CD, so I didn't have to buy one.  They said that you had to buy (have?) a CD for her to sign.  I also brought my CD of her live concert from 1993 (just before she left for London to do Sunset Boulevard) and she signed both!!  So, in honor of today's Topic of the Day, here's what I will have in my CD player at work:

Good morning, all!  I have to request vibes from all of you for my sister-in-law Donna, who's going through worse health than I at the moment.

DRGeorge, that's fantastic!  I think Patti's great, and she's someone I'd love to work with.  I met her briefly when I was working on PAL JOEY for Encores!, and I've met her brother Robert, who was another casualty, like my friend Dan Marcus, of TRIUMPH OF LOVE.  In 1999, when several ruptured cervical discs were requiring surgery because they were pressing on my spinal cord and inhibiting my motor skills, I had to turn down some work for her.  I had to tell Dick Gallagher, her musical director, that I was too busy since I didn't want the word out that I was unable to walk or hold a pencil.  You win, you lose.  Now that I'm fine, Patti never calls, never writes.

Dear Friend BK, I remember that studio quite well.  Where are you, Mr Haines, and Vinny recording this new album?

TOD:
DVD:  3 Netflix picks
CD:  various and sundried complations for work, some music hall ditties in honor of Baxter the Clown, Renee Fleming's recording of Massenet's THAIS, perhaps some ABBA in honor of the MAMA MIA delegation.
VCR:  cheap porn

Now, I have to go and deal with various and sundried events today: some proofing, a bit of Liz Callaway work, delivering some music.  It should all be quite lively and festive.

I also just heard about the fire in a hotel in Paris. I saw that DR FRancois posted earlier this morning. I am hoping that it wasn't his hotel as he usually posts more than once on Friday mornings

It is still in my DVD player but I watched it last night. Angels in America Part Two. If these movies had been released theatrically they would have swept the oscars each year.

I am not sure what I will watch or listen to this weekend. Hard to plan a weekend around watching movies or listening to music when you have to pay bills, do shopping, clean house, see friends. So little time.

Not sure about listening and viewing today and this weekend. I have many CDs here at the office. Tomorrow Anthony is working on another craft project with his cousin so I will be out and about during the morning, doing laundry and whatever.

I'm seeing the Mufti Darling of the Day tonight. Miss Rebecca Luker and Miss Beth Fowler will be on stage.

I saw Sweet Charity last night. With TDF you never know what kind of tickets you will get but as luck would have it, I got 4th Row side aisle. I think the show is quite good. D'Amboise is wonderful and it's too bad that she will not be able to open. Perhaps all the brouhaha surrounding the show has given the cast an extra boost of energy but I found it very well done with D'Amboise and O'Hare (Denis) as standouts. It's not an outstanding, knock your socks off production but it stands up well. The song "Good Impression" has been added but other than that, all the changes announced and performed in Minneapolis have been removed. I haven't seen a production of the show in years so I don't remember if the book has been tweaked much but it has the original ending, not the new ending and "I Love to Cry at Weddings" is back where it should be. Praise be to TDF. I will be seeing Charity again next Thursday, this time with Miss Applegate. Don't know if I'll get the same good seats but I'll bring my binoculars, though the Martin Beck/Al Hirschfeld is small enough that if I'm in the balcony I won't really need them. By the by, while the set still contains the lamp post that caused all the problems, NOBODY dances around it. Charity does put her arm around it at one or two points but NO dancing.

Vibes to the Elmore family

Last night DR JRand gave the correct link between Tonsil and Pat Carroll.  Ms. Carroll played Mary Richards' cranky hospital roommate when she was having her tonsil (singular) removed.

DISCUSSION ABOUT WEDNESDAY'S ALIAS*******

DR MattH (and others who watch Alias).

It sort of cracks me up that every week (lately) you've said "wow the end of ALIAS was shocking".  And for the life of me, I can never remember what happened.  Thankfully you've been putting it in spoiler space to jog my memory.

So for those who watched, who is Joel Grey and why is he dressing up?  The ressemblance was amazing.

Btw, I hadn't seen the opening credits, so I was surprised.

TOD:

DVD's-- I have two great Bollywood movies beckoning to me and impatiently waiting for the weekend.  The DVD's and I are both impatient.

CD's--  "out at the Movies,"  "Anita Ellis," and a compilation CD (which must be songs toward the end of the alphabet as "Who Am I?" Who Gave You Permission" and "Who Kulled Teddy Bear?" are all on it.

Good Health vibes to.. well, everyone, actually.

Along with the high-speed internet, we also got the free basic cable (mostly just network and a couple shopping channels). I believe the problem with our tv was that the roofers disconnected the antenna. The picture is purty now.

I read the VARIETY review this morning of "Murder at the Vicarage," the first of four MISS MARPLE mysteries that are being telecast here on PBS' MYSTERY series. (in one hour installments).

The review was certainly positive, but I found it odd that there was NO mention at all of Joan Hickson's previous TV-films of the four mysteries they're going to be showing. Margaret Rutherford's four 1960s films were, of course, mentioned in the review, but nothing about the fact that these four stories had already been told before on screen and by the BBC.

The review mentioned repeatedly that these mysteries were not going to draw as many in the 18-49 age group that other networks so prize and how lucky we are that PBS doesn't count on that demographic to make their programming decisions.

I still can't believe there were no comparisons between the two VICARAGE productions in terms of performance, production values, etc. Still, I will now look forward to seeing these films that Tomovoz has given such positive reviews to.

So, it had to be content to sweep the Emmys (and GOlden Globes and SAG Awards instead). It won 11 Emmy Awards.
