BK, that Barbirolli recording of
Dido and Aeneas was my first Purcell recording, around 1968. I'm very fond of it, but, like Sir Thomas Beecham's
Messiah, other 17th and 18th century music recorded before, say, 1964, the approach was a late 19th century attitude toward the baroque: trills, mordents, etc, when written in the score, no improvisation. So, it's now considered an old-fashioned recording, but I still love it.
