Friday morning greetings!  In a few minutes I have a FaceTime coffee date with my friend Rebecca.  I'm looking forward to hearing how the week has been since she began caring for her husband in their home.

This week’s TCM international film, which doesn’t start until 2 am ET, was an Ozu movie I had never heard of. Too bad I don’t have DVR here.

A few years ago I went through all the Ozu movies I have here. I might have acquired another one since, not sure. I shall look forward to hearing about them again and becoming reacquainted.

I'm so mad I could spit.  I can be so damned stupid, and I think I really blew it this morning.  I got a popup about Mac updates so I installed them, and I should have done a backup first.  I've been own the phone with AppleCare for the past two hours, and I cannot get onto my computer.  The last person I spoke to wanted me to empty my computer and download my last backup from a week ago.  I did not want to do that since I will lose all my last book revisions and emails from the last week.  So we're trying a new download from my hard drive and God alone knows if this will work or not.  If worse comes to worst, I know at least one friend with a nearly current copy of the book so I can always get the copy from him.

I saw that update notice! What's infuriating to me is that they don't tell you what, exactly, wants to be updated. I insist on being able to make an informed decision.

And then I went to look at something else first, and the update notification disappeared. It's not in my notifications, so where in the HELL is it?

I went to the App Store and there's nothing there to be updated. The only other thing I'm aware of is the update from Mojave to Catalina, which because of certain software, I absolutely cannot allow. I believe a change of OS does NOT happen without your permission, and that had better be right.

So, is it an update to the current OS? And what in the HELL caused it to bomb out for DR Elmore?

Today, I'm only going to work a partial day.  I'm leaving early because my dad's church, Saint George Byzantine Catholic Church is going to have a special service for him...I think that that's what's happening.  It's something like that.  Anyway, my mom and I are going and I need to get some new pants.  I bought a couple of new shirts, but I only have black jeans.  I know that my mom would not like that. ::)

 ;)

DR George, this is really wonderful.  I hope it all goes smoothly today.

Thanks, Larry!

And then Bernstein's tunes from these pieces were re-worked into a Mass setting (separate from Mass).

I don't know about that, but here's Bernstein's "Soldier's Song."

So, the AppleCare move to rebuild from the hard drive worked, and I am back online and nothing was lost.  That's a big relief.

One of the boutique labels in the UK is about to release up-to-date scans and deluxe Blu-ray sets of I, Monster (Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing) and The Beast Must Die (Calvin Lockhart and Peter Cushing). These are both Amicus Productions, and I do love the Amicus portmanteau horror films.

I took a look at the old DVD of the former, and I could tell right away that I'd never even seen this movie. What's more, in chapter-surfing and watching a minute here and there, I found it fairly dismal in its overall look, and just plain unappealing, story- and acting-wise. (It's a Jekyll and Hyde adaptation, but this one sure wasn't attracting my interest.)

As for the latter, I'm pretty sure I've never seen it, either, and I even remember a friend telling me not to bother with it.

So do I have the wrong impressions of these? Anyone here care to talk me into buying or avoiding?
