My sister Molly is on her way to North Carolina for a few days vacation.  She will soon be leaving Charlotte for Wilmington.

Which always reminds me of my favorite newspaper headline:

NEWLYWEDS LEAVE DAVENPORT FOR HOT SPRINGS

So, I found the 7" single that was included with the Close Encounters soundtrack, but it"s not the disco version.  It's just the theme.  Here it is:

Now I have to look for the disco version.  I totally remember that.  It's probably right there on Spotify!

Nothing new going on. I got a bunch of boxes for the move from a pal yesterday.  Still working on the motivation to get packing.  It'll happen, I'm sure.

I loved CE3K at the movies.....we saw it the week it opened.  I went to see ET all by myself....and I enjoyed it.

One of the things I enjoyed most about JAWS was that it was a story about one man....and then three.....who were on a quest to get that damned shark against all odds.

In CE3K, ET, and Poltergeist......we had a similar ending....our heroes against EVERYONE - the police, the army, tout le monde instead of just one person against the unknown....there was no victory unless it was against IMPOSSIBLE odds.....

I was always kind of disappointed that it wasn't more one on one, so to speak.....which I kind of expected after JAWS.

But that's just me.

I indeed remember the disco CE3K version.....which I used for a routine for a group of my kids back in my dance studio days....it was most excellent - when they remembered it.

I hadn't heard that term in years, DR Jrand70.

DAVENPORT

It's what I grew up saying. I just looked it up, and it figured largely in the Midwest so that makes total sense. For us, that thing in the living room was always a "davenport", and I think "couch" was the informal word for it. I didn't much hear the word "sofa", or at least begin using it myself, till much later.

So what do I (we) use nowadays? "Couch", mostly, whether or not we're sitting on one like so much fish. When we don't say "couch", it's "sofa". (As opposed to "sofa so far so" as they might say in Trouble in Tahiti. Ratty boo, and all that. If you catch my drift.)

I told the cats I would be gone ab out an hour, and that's exactly what the timing was.  I left the apartment at 10:45, and entered it at 11:45.  It was a delightful trip to and from City Center.  I had two very kind and helpful drivers, and thanks to Joshie, I just emailed the scans of my orchestration to the conductor and copyist. While I waited for Joshie to scan the scores, the City Center doorman Abdul, who's become a good friend, came out to the street and visited with me.  It turned out to be a delightful day.

DR CHAS SMITH I think my grandparents always said davenport.....but I think I have always said couch.

A davenport always seemed to me to be those BIG rounded things with huge arms big enough to sit on.

I never went to see Mystic Pizza when it was released, but when I moved to Connecticut several months later I made a point of renting it, and enjoyed it. I later drove out to Mystic to check out the place.

The movie was shot all around that area, but the existing Mystic Pizza restaurant is not what’s in the film. It’s pretty good pizza, and fun to stop in at if you’re out there. But it’s not of the hardcore New Haven style pizza that Connecticut is known for.

Now I want to see the movie.

And I really want some damn pizza.

I went to Mystic when we lived in Connecticut.  I am glad now I didn't have any pizza.  We lived very close to New Haven and, of course, got our pizza there.

I still can't purchase a book from Nook and found this online.

Barnes and Noble has officially released a statement and have sent emails to most users and also posted it on their Facebook Page. It states “We sincerely apologize for the present disruption to your NOOK service. We are experiencing an interruption to our system that has caused us to restore our server backups. Unfortunately, while this is underway, NOOK customers are unable to access the library held on these servers. The system will be restored as soon as possible, at which time your library will be made available again. You will be receiving a reward to use online or in our stores as soon as the service is back to normal. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this has caused you.”

I have not received an update on Nook.  I have taken photos of the books in my wishlist in case they disappeared.

I was just thinking that the list of complete series that we have watched on television on various platforms during this pandemic is quite a long one. Always on the lookout for more worthy titles.

On a related note, DR George mentioned "branching." I was always surprised the studios didn't embrace this more fully, to create "Choose Your Own Adventure" type discs.

That would be cool!
