Well, you've read the notes, the notes told two tales, and now it is time for you to post until the operatic cows come home.

Tom I know you figured out the candy part.  I was just clarifying there wasn't anything else in the box.  That was very odd.

Well, Stella survived her Day of Terror and spent the night curled up beside me. I had forgiven her by the time I returned from the pharmacy, and she watched the soaps with me and Thatch.

Last night I dragged out the catnip, and I had two stoned cats on my hands.  Annabelle had no reaction, but Stella and Thatch went on a trip during which they wrestled maniacally, Thatch tried to eat a pillow, and Stella discovered that a non-stoned Annabelle was no fun at all.

DR vixmom, your Thanksgiving sounds very intimate and peaceful.  Enjoy your pies.  In our family, the pies were always pumpkin and pecan, which were the same for Christmas, with the addition of my Aunt Dorothy's mince pies, which my mother's huge family either loved or loathed.

I spoke to my brother Randy.  There's been no further word on the Ohio property inquiry, and that's a bummer.

This is why I fret so over the NYC ACC's behavior to animals in their "care":

And here's Blue's adoption video before they decided to kill him.  He's so adorable!

Oh, my. BK listened to the Ives Fourth. That really is a trip. My own head nearly exploded when I browsed the full score one afternoon in Patelson’s.

We had thought, very briefly, of trying a prepared Thanksgiving dinner, and found it inordinately expensive while still requiring quite a bit of work. I mean, it’s not like a team of tuxedoed waiters brings in this steaming hot covered silver platter, sets an elegant table for you, and starts carving.

I love preparing the side dishes, anyway, so we then considered bringing in just the prepared turkey breast, maybe even two so we’d have plenty later on. We ended up nixing that, too, so we’re getting a small turkey and will do what we’ve always done. A tradition survives another year.

I like DR Elmore’s family’s tradition of the two pies, with the addition of the mince pie. It don’t get no better than that.

Were they still authentic mince meat pies then? We had them, too, and I was the kid who always loved them. But I have no idea now which ours were. Which sadly means I have no idea whether I’ve had a real mince meat pie. And isn’t that a fine kettle of fish.

I’m happy to hear about Stella. And isn’t an occasional evening of catnip an incredible thing?

Some cats just don’t react to it, although a different blend or a little spray bottle of the essence could produce different results. We had some of the spray that was pricey but reliably potent and fast acting. I wonder if there’s any left.

She called them "mince meat," but there was no meat in them at all.  Much as I loved my Aunt Dorothy, I really detested them.  My mother, who was  an erratic cook, made excellent pie crusts and her pies - whether apple, cherry, pumpkin, pecan, or banana cream (my Dad's fave) - were either prize winners or fit only for the garbage.  There was never an in-between.

I needed to remind myself about mincemeat. Here is what Wikipedia says:

Mincemeat is a mixture of chopped dried fruit, distilled spirits and spices, and sometimes beef suet, beef, or venison. Originally, mincemeat always contained meat. Many modern recipes contain beef suet, though vegetable shortening is sometimes used in its place.
