Miss Day arrived here today, but, alas, no time to watch the lovely lady. Maybe Friday.

I'm glad they're going to release THE DORIS DAY SHOW, but naturally they're starting with that less-than=thrilling first season where she's on her dad's ranch/farm. I liked the other four seasons when she came to San Francisco and became a career gal.

I'll repeat my Ask BK/DR question from yesterday:

Does anyone know anything about Eileen Ryan, who appeared in a bunch of late 50s/early 60s tv (Twilight Zone, Perry Mason) and who bears a more than striking resemblance to Meryl Streep?  Are they related?

Oops, looks like I'm pulling a George (figuratively, of course).  I remember now I looked her up last year on IMDb the last time I saw her--she's Sean Penn's mom!!

George, I went up to Midtown at lunch on the rare chance that because it's somewhat rainy and yukky out there would NOT be a crowd for the Scoundrels giveaway. I didn't say anything about going because I didn't want to get your hopes up in case I wasn't able to get a CD. Boy, was I wrong about thinking there would be no line. I took one look and decided to come back downtown. If I had joined the line I would have been on it for, I'm sure, the full two hours of the giveaway. Some people got there very, very early. Far too early for me who is just getting back to feeling well. I'm sure it will be on the local news (maybe national also) today.

Oh, well. I will get the official version when it's released May 10

Thanks for trying!  They did say, however, that 50,000 CDs will be given away free starting April 27th.  So there's still time.... ::)

And if I go to the show again I will get the CD. It's on the half-price booth and TDF frequently so it's a possibility. As Matt H said in an earlier post, his friends liked DRS more than Spamalot. I had a very good time at Spamalot but DRS is more fun and a repeat (especially at cheap prices) for me.

There is no such place as Calum, NY.

The new television is up and running.

47" screen, wide and hi-def... I think.  Der B keeps up with that stuff, I don't.

Since Good Eats isn't either wide-screen or hi-def, it's not something I'm picky about.

(Tonight: reruns of "Send In the Clams" and "Crustacean Nation.")

I mentioned one yesterday--"Shadow Play" with Howard Duff, where he's the businessman who is suddenly an actor playing a businessman on a movie set.  She plays the shrewish wife.

I'll see if I have that episode.  I got rid of my full set when the SE sets started being released, so I only have seasons one and two.

You'll have it then, it's Season 1.  Tell me if you don't think she's a dead ringer (or at least a half-dead ringer ;)) for Meryl Streep.

Perhaps the Cyndi Lauper thing was but a ruse, as Broadway.com is suggesting Ms. Lupone is close to a done deal:

I grew up in the CALUMET region of Indiana, named for a river, which was named for an Indian tribe which was named after a brand of baking soda.

Oh, the calumny!

I will indeed be lunching with Miss Tammy Minoff and a friend of hers who wishes to meet me.  We shall be going not to Casa Vega but to the California Pizza Kitchen.  I shall walk there.

September 1975 -  December 1977 was a particularly nice time in my life....  except for August 16, 1977 which was a rotten, miserable, terrible, no good, very bad  day...

Each evening, from December to December,
Before you drift to sleep upon your cot,
Think back on all the tales that you remember
Of CALUMET.
Ask ev'ry person if he's heard the story,
And tell it strong and clear if he has not,
That once there was a fleeting wisp of glory
Called CALUMET.
CALUMET! CALUMET!
Now say it out with pride and joy!

CALUMET! CALUMET!

Yes, CALUMET, my boy!
Where once it never rained till after sundown,
By eight a.m. the morning fog had flown...
Don't let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
For one brief shining moment that was known
As CALUMET.

We're Knights of the Round Table,
Of thinking we're capable,
If we get bored with shield and sword
We learn our nine-times table,
It's a cerebral life in Calumet,
We contemplate and plot a lot.

We're Knights of the Round Table,
Although we live a fable,
We're not just bums with Royal Mums
We're men whose brains are able,
We like to je ne sais quoi a lot,
We're a polyglot lot in Calumet.

'Though our loyalty's unstable,
And we fold like a card table,
We're not just boys in tin alloys,
Or a King wrapped up in sable,
We think a lot in Calumet--
(Solo) Therefore, I s'pose, I am a lot.

We're Knights of the Round Table.
We dance whene'er we're able.
We do routines and chorus scenes
With footwork impeccable.
We dine well here in Calumet.
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot.
We're Knights of the Round Table.
Our shows are formidable,
But many times we're given rhymes
That are quite unsingable.
We're opera mad in Calumet.
We sing from the diaphragm a lot.

Shortly I shall be on my way to CPK - I wonder what I shall eat there?  Do I do a small salad and a pasta?  A small salad and a pizza?  Or, a large salad and nothing.

DR elmore and others - Today's Middletown Journal has an article about the death of Middletown-native Margo Skinner, a New York actress who died earlier this month.  See also:

www.playbill.com/news/article/92361.html

Oh, no!  I knew Margo.  When I moved to New York, she was still married to Dan Von Bargen whom she met while they were at Trinity Rep.  One of her sisters went to school with me, and I adored her mother.  Dan's career really took off, Margo's career was quieter and she worked steadily.

I had a DARLING OF THE DAY meeting at 3rd Ave and 9th Street, so on the way back I stopped at Footlights and Academy, where I picked up the OBC recording of SPAMALOT a week early!  Hooray!

DRBen, the man with the big jars of honey is only there on Fridays and Saturdays, I learned when I stopped by the Greenmarket.

DRGinny, Margo looks just like her mother in that photo in the Playbill article!  She was much thinner when I last saw her.

From reading various forums, it seems like Anthony's line was very busy last night after IDOL, so maybe he'll be around for another week. Seems to be the concensus that Scott will be going home after tonight. However, we've all thought that before, so it ain't over 'til it's over.

Where is BK having lunch? The Calumny Pizza Kitchen?

A woman has twins and gives them  up for adoption.

One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal."

The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan."

Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother.  Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal.

Her husband responds, "They're twins!  If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."
