I was waiting on a grocery delivery, so I opened my door to wait for the delivery man ands nearly fell over a huge carton from Omaha Steaks which has become the identifying gift from my Christmas angel. I have a nicely stocked freezer now, and I am quite happy.

I am glad to hear you didn’t actually fall over it!  Sounds like someone loves you!

I saw the dentist today and am now on a soft-foods-only diet. That means ice cream, pie, and soft chocolate, right?

I remember doctors making house calls. Our family doctor made them, as did most doctors then. He came to the house when I had polio, but there was nothing he could do. Nevertheless, it was comforting to have him make the visit.

I truly feel that the quality of health care took a plunge when doctors stopped making them. There are some patients who simply should not go into the office, both for their own health and the health of others. Concierge doctors make house calls, but they use a different business model and aren't accessible to many patients. The medical organizations of today simply don't address this issue. Your options are to call an ambulance and go to the hospital or drive to Urgent Care. Neither makes sense in certain situations. I've long felt we should bring back house calls in certain situations.

I think the best we will have is tele-visits. 

The one and only house call I had was after we were married.  I was very sick with a bad case of the flu and had a terrible cough.  I told Keith to call my father, who of course made a house call.  He left me with meds for my bronchitis.

Since then I have gone to the doctor's office with bronchitis but not with the flu.  Once, after calling a doctor in Ashland I talked her into treating me without a visit.  I told I was too sick to get into the car, but not sick enough to go to emergency.

Finished with my viewing, and had a Marie Callender's frozen mac-and-cheese for my snack.  That probably puts me around 1200 to 1400 calories, which is fine.

We had a team-building year-end zoom get-together today. It was a murder mystery, and my team did not get the murderer. It was fun, for the most part, a little too much forced merriment of the type that makes me less involved. But we were supposed to get the rest of the day off afterward.

But I couldn't leave as I had a must-attend meeting at 3 p.m.

So, in the meantime time, Mom and I made a really good pot of Roasted Mushroom and Onion Soup. You roast the onions in the oven for 45 minutes and the mushrooms 30 minutes before adding to the soup. I was surprised at how rich the flavors were. White wine and veggie stock were also in there, as well as more onion and celery.
