A friend of mine just posted, and I have checked this with the BBC News website, that there is a new strain of COVID in the UK which is, so far as they know now, not more deadly, but spreads much more rapidly than the usual strains. UK is going to have to go into tighter restrictions than hereforto.

:o Oh, no!!

It's been a strange day. But a good one, with my watching both Desk Set and The Bishop's Wife.

I also got to see most of an oddity called A Flintstone's Christmas Carol, which was surprisingly true to the original.

I still haven't figured out what we're going to have for Christmas dinner. Patti LaBelle's macaroni and cheese is definitely a finalist. But Mom doesn't really want anything. She says she has little hunger anymore. But I see her react to a number of dishes.

I started a new book today. Dunbar by Edward St. Aubyn. It's a modern retelling of King Lear. In this one, Lear is is tucked away in an insane asylum, under the instructions of a doctor hired by elder daughters Abigail and Megan. Those three are in an odd menage a trois. Though the father has given his daughters his business, he's still listed as being in charge of a particularly choice fund. The jester is another asylum inmate who believes he's a comedian.

I think I like it more in outline than the actual book itself.

Now listening to music - two more CDs in the Entartete series by Berthold Goldschmidt  - very enjoyable.  And now it's a Sony disc of Schippers doing Alexander Nevsky, an album I've always loved, on a double bill with Mitropoulos doing Romeo and Juliet - amazing Columbia stereo sound that could probably use a fresh mastering.  But these performances are favorites of mine.

DR TCB, DR Ginny was not in The Beggar's Opera; she was my assistant. I had cast a good baritone as Lockit, and he dropped out shortly after rehearsals began.  I've always suspected some of Britten's harmonies frightened him off.  I ended up having to play the role, and the production suffered because (1)I am no legit baritone and (2)my focus was scattered.

I looked good, though.

Elmore, my comment was in jest.  The woman on the right in the upper photo is holding a book, so I imagined it was Ginny prompting the cast.😜

DESK SET must be playing on a giant loop. I watched most of SUSAN SLEPT HERE, and I noticed that DESK SET was up next.  I had never heard of SUSAN.  It was very strange.

I am watching DESK SET again this afternoon.....I love the ad libbed moment when Tracy comes back into view at Bunny's apartment pretending to be drunk.

Hepburn & Blondell didn't know he was going to do that and they all broke up.

Are we sure that Tracy was pretending?

Ellen DeGeneres talked the painful covid symptom she didn't know about.  If I had seen her discuss this sooner I definitely would have gotten tested for covid last week when I mentioned I was considering doing so.

My next CoVid test is Monday, December 28.

Well, there's always be a period of adjustment, but hopefully that won't last too long.
