I have to work this morning, so will be missing the live broadcast of the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols from King's College, Cambridge. I will be able to listen later.

Beautiful reminiscences of Rebecca Luker, and I was especially looking forward to pulling the Cole Porter CD off the shelf and listening to it today. Sadly, that was not to be, as I don't seem to have ever had it (which I knew to be the case once I thought about it). I saw only one overpriced copy on Amazon, and I probably should have asked BK before doing this, but I went to eBay and found a good one for the right price. I've purchased it, and I look forward to bringing in the new year with this wonderful music.

Last night, in reference to my picture of the hot dogs, TCB asked:

Quote
Is that Skyline Chili?

No sir. It's Hormel (without beans), available everywhere. When I was ready to indulge my li'l hot dog craving a few weeks ago I was wondering what the hell kind of chili to get for that purpose, and BK said that's what he uses. I went with it, and it's perfect.

Next time I'm in Ohio and come back with some cans of Skyline, I'll make a point of trying that on a hot dog for my first time. I've never been moved to try one at one of their locations, simply because the chili/spaghetti thing is so spectacular that nothing else tempts me. But I shall indeed try a "Skyline" hot dog in the comfort of home sometime.

I did research Nathan's since I'd always loved their chili dogs at Coney Island. They DID sell it in small retail packets, but as of sometime last year it was discontinued. I'd originally thought theirs would be my first choice if available, but (1) that kind of thing always tends to be ridiculously expensive, and (2) the Hormel really is perfect.

I'm also trying a variety of hot dogs. The first batch a couple of weeks ago were Nathan's skinless. They're good, but I think not quite as wonderful as what they serve at the Nathan's locations. This week it's Hebrew National, which I used to enjoy a lot. Both of these are perfectly fine for this. I'll find a third type to try next time.

You all know I'm a Chicago hot dog fanatic. When I'm making those, I only buy them with a natural casing because that's one of the hallmarks of the Chicago dog. Again, many brands available, but this household's favorite is Sabrett which have wonderful flavor.

Speaking of chili (ba-dum-bum), the real temperature here right now is -1. Wind chills in the northern part of the state are in the negative 30s.

TOD

No changes from our norm are necessary, since for the past few years the three of us have enjoyed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at home, foregoing the running around we used to do.

Tonight we'll eat something nice, open a few gifts, and watch a holiday movie or two. Tomorrow, a few more gifts (we give each other a number of small things for the most part), watch a parade or two on TV, have phone calls with family, and maybe another good movie or two later. The morning will be greeted with coffee, warm cinnamon rolls, and perhaps some bacon if we feel like it. Then we're grilling a heap of sausage and peppers to enjoy through the day. Whatever we decide on for tonight will be the more formal meal.

Whereas we are being treated to a two-day thaw with temperatures in the 50s (even including tonight's low). But along with that, a lot of rain and wind. Then tomorrow night we'll be unceremoniously dumped back into the teens or low twenties and we'll be in regular winter mode for the foreseeable future.

I climbed the Big Ladder and brought down 60 cans of Fancy Feast.  That should cover us through the end of January.  I'm going to launder the bathroom rug, track down the super, and give him his gift.

For the last three years, I’ve been away from home at Christmas. Two years ago, I was in Germany with my sister and her family. Last year, I was in Hilton Head. This year it’s Louisville.

Good Morning.  I have to work this afternoon/evening but I'll be home by 8:00pm at the latest which is crazy for a Christmas Eve.  I'm preparing my own prime-rib dinner.  I'll probably watch some TV and go to bed.  Tomorrow after church, I suppose I'll wander over to my moms/sisters for some driveway chat if it's not raining.  Otherwise, nothing is planned.

My Christmas Eve dinner will be leftover Chinese: shrimp with garlic sauce, shrimp fried rice, and won ton soup.

I tracked down the super and gave him his gift, and the bathroom rug and Annabelle-vomit-towel are now in the dryer. Then I dragged up 40 lbs of kitty litter.  I may not leave my bed tomorrow.

Christmas Eve greetings!  We have listened to Lessons and Carols from King’s College and I’ve baked gingerbread cut-outs.  This afternoon we’ll decorate the shortbread cut-outs and order our Christmas Eve dinner from Olive Garden.

5:00 a.m.!  That is when the two monsters finally stopped fighting.  They spent this entire afternoon sleeping, so I can’t wait to see what this evening brings.

Those were very lovely reminiscences about Rebecca Luker, BK.  And that's a great picture of the two of you!

I was just about to say the same thing.  She was obviously much loved.

I had a dream that my urinary tract had somehow gotten in a knot. TMI, I know.

Ouch but an understandable dream after your recent trip to the ER.
