Not a war movies fan either. I did like Mr Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket". I also liked "Glory".(Zwick)

My favourite war movie is "King And Country".

The reason I made war movies the topic is because I'm watching Battle of the Bulge, a movie I've never seen, and I must say, despite its rather bad reputation, I'm really enjoying it.

All I know from war movies is the movie M*A*S*H, from which I don't know very much.

Only six more pages of rhetoric to go. This is shaping up to be a pretty good all-nighter.

I'm not much a war movie fan either, but the ones that come to mind - which may be the only ones I've ever seen - are:

M*A*S*H*
Saving Private Ryan (as opposed to "Shaving Private Ryan" or "Saving Ryan's Privates"

Apocalypse Now
Empire of the Sun (I think this could qualify as a war movie)

I'm not a big fan of war movies either. PATHS OF GLORY and IN WHICH WE SERVE ae two I like. I'm sure there are a few others, but once war moves up into modern times, it becomes to mechanized and mechanical for me. Ah! I also like ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, THE GREAT ESCAPE, and MRS. MINIVER. My favourite WW II movie is actually about the aftermath...BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES.

What a happy HAPPENSTANCE that we would be discussing war movies today. I don't like a lot of them, but the ones I enjoy, I like a LOT!

One has already been mentioned:

WHERE EAGLES DARE with Mr Richard Burton & Mr Clint Eastwood, not a logical moment in the movie, but lots of fun.

HELL'S ANGELS - specifically for the dirigible fight.

SAYONARA - sort of a stretch, but a Korean War movie
BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI - with Mr William Holden & Mickey Rooney
STALAG 17 - another Holden drammer

and one I would recommend to those who have not heard of it:

BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL - a Fox DVD, directed by Richard Fleischer, starring Robert Wagner, Buddy Ebsen, Terry Moore, Broderick Crawford, Skip Homeier & Frank Gorshin....terrific film.

Good morning, all! I was awake at 5:30 this morning, and I decided I wouldn't go back to sleep around 6, when I put the coffee on the stove. I've finished catching up on the posts from last night, read the new notes, and here are my paltry and groggy thoughts.

DRPogue, I believe I was the first poster of "Be afraid . . ." yesterday. I didn't know that you wrote the line! I don't believe at this point I could even tell you what it's taken from. I do, however, think it's great that you've written a line that's become a part of popular culture.

I've heard from DRCillaliz, and she's been busy getting a house ready for sale. She says she will return when the debris clears.

Happy return to OzDerek!

I saw A Little of What You Fancy on Friday. It's Anthony's show here in New York before he heads out to the wilds of Virginia.

It was a lovely evening in the theatre. It's a well done pleasant little piece showcasing music which 9 out of 10 people don't know. There are three songs (which are used for audience sing-along) which are well known, but unless you are of a certain age and grew up in England (or you are an afficianado of older music) you probably won't know many of the songs.

The entire cast does a good job in a very small space (the theatre has 50 seats, folding chairs). The costumes are beautiful and the music (arrangements and actual playing of an electronic piano) is well played by a single person, much like our own Jose. Jason Wynn is the music director and musician and does a very good job.

It's A Small World Department: One of the cast members in the show is known to our own BK. Kristopher Monroe, who does the male ingenue tenor songs, was part of BK's reading/singing/signing at Drama Book Shop in March. He sang numbers from the CD of Bus and Truck. What a pleasant surprise.

On that note (C#) I will take my leave for now. I have work waiting for me and since I'm not a fan of war movies (though MASH is quite good) I doubt that I'll post much on that topic.

Good to read the report about Anthony's show Ben.

I used to love a British TV (Yorkshire TV)show called "Old Time Music Hall". The MC was the father (I think) of Manuel from Faulty Towers. There are some wonderful Edwardian songs. Actor Edward Woodward had a delightful album of them "Edwardian Woodward".

Well I have been E & T all weekend but with cause, with cause....

The Vixter's birthday and opening night of Peter Pan were on Friday, Saturday brought a first communion party and an evening performance for the Vixter (and me as usher) Sunday the Vixter had to sing at both the 9 & 10: 45 church services plu7s my usual Sundxay School teaching, we arrived home at half twelve to be suprise that Mr. Vixmom had bought tickets for the half one showing of Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy so a qucik luinch and off we went. Home again fora an hour or show for a quick change of clothes and then off the the Outback (the Vixter's favorite restaurant) for thye traditional celebratory birthday dinner. By time we got home it was sleepy time for one and all....
