Then I came home and ordered the 1/4 chicken from California Chicken Cafe along with the chicken pasta salad. They arrived about thirty minutes later and it was all great.

I finished listening to Boris Godunov, which I enjoyed but is way too long for its own good.

Then it was Weill's Der Silbersee, which is really a wonderful work with lots of orchestra-only sections and the recording on RCA is fantastic.

Now playing: Another Entartete Musik CD - this one by Wilhelm Grosz, who fled the evil Nazis and relocated to America. He died at forty-five in NY. He wrote a lot of songs, which is what this album is - Afrika Songs is brilliant and I'm totally in love with it and have listened three times already, And the other songs are equally fantastic, including his two huge hits, Harbour Lights and Red Sails in the Sunset. He wrote operas and orchestral music and I don't think anything but this album exists, which is really a shame.

That Silbersee really sounds tempting.

As does the Grosz. But I don't have any of those Entartetes. That's something I need to start at some point.

It was another weird day at work. We had our employee meeting where the bonus range was announced. In previous years, it could have been up to 18 % or so of your salary. Well, not this year. It was only 10.1%, and people who consider their bonus to be a God-given right were furious. Plus, regardless of the bonus, folks under $100,000 will get an additional $1,000 bonus.

Yet, the first question from an employee was whether leadership thought it was fair that we were being "penalized" because of things out of our control, including fines levied against actions made eight years ago. The person went on to say that, given the pandemic, we should get a full bonus because that was also beyond our control.

The CEO reminded people that we're a team and share in the good and the bad.

The next questions all seemed to be in the same line. No one said thanks. No one said they understood.

Everything was greeted with an eerie silence. No one posted in the work chat rooms, no one mentioned it at all except for a supervisor in another group.

Weird.

I did manage to get a walk in today. I was surprised. It was in the low 70s with the sun setting in my eyes and just felt healthy to be out of doors for a change. I wore my mask to filter the allergens in the air.

ChasSmith, if you need Entartete suggestions, happy to oblige - all but two have been fantastic. Listening to Cavalleria Rusticana

Good news from Jane!

Especially that the hospital was organized.

I had expected it to be busier today.  It may have been, however, I was out in 30 minutes just like Keith was.

I've spoken to the surgeon and the plumber has come and gone. I've gone to the bank and picked up some lunch. Plus all the other little things that fill the day. I'm ready for a nap.

A productive day :)

If they don't understand the concept of a bonus it makes me wonder if they understand the work they do ;)

It was windy here, 37 degrees without the sun.  It definitely seemed colder.  At one point I stopped home to wrap a scarf around my neck.  I also wore my mask when I didn't need it to keep the cold out of my lungs.

Watched the second episode of Miss Scarlet. Yes, it plays like a modern-day costume drama, but I'm enjoying it.

We just watched two wonderful Great Performances programs.

The first was about Maria Callas's Covent Garden Tosca, of which Act 2 (only) was filmed. Amazing.

Then on to Horowitz's comeback piano recital in Moscow in 1986.

Each program was woven in with commentary by contemporary artists.  Very enjoyable.

We also enjoyed the first episode of Miss Scarlett.  Although every time I say it or read it, I can't seem to get Vicki Lawrence out of my head.

Finished off Pierrot le Fou from Jean-Luc Godard. What a hilarious movie. The more I think about it, the less I understand it, so I tried turning off the brain and just enjoying what was on the screen, namely the sprite-like Anna Karina (Godard's wife at the time). She never makes a false move, whether she's thrust into a musical number or is murdering a dwarf.

Jean-Paul Belmondo's red shirt matched his car. That was very cool.

Got a bunch of films from the library today, including the original The Trip movie and the final installment, The Trip to Greece. In that latter, they go to the theater at Epidaurus, which I went to on my last trip there. I really enjoy these movies, and not just because they talk about food a lot.

I also got Joseph Andrews, the soundtrack of which was released by Kritzerland. I think I'll watch that paired with Tom Jones.
