DR George, I think Mr Russell's artwork is very good for what he's illustrating, but like the artwork recommended by two other friends, he's not the illustrator for my cat tales.

Tuesday was Jonathan Tunick's birthday, so I sent him an email. I received a nice reply containing two pieces of music he's been composing during his pandemic sabbatical in Connecticut. One is a choral piece for chorus, piano, and cello solo; the other is a song setting of a poem by Sara Teasdale.

I knew Peter MacNicol in the early 1980s. We used to run into each other in midtown after he was in the Broadway cast of Crimes of the Heart. He was friendly - I can't remember now if he was the Bernard Herrmann fan or if that was another acquaintance - but he always reminded me of a deer in the headlights. Then one day he left NYC for Hollywood and I've never seen him since.

I have enjoyed him in many things from Sophie’s Choice to Ally MacBeal. I liked Dragonslayer in the theater. It was loud and fun. It lost most of its charm on DVD a few decades later.

That song of Sara Tisdale’s poem was on Broadway Records’ collection of work done during and about the pandemic. It was one of my two favorites.
