The basement was very warm and very humid. I will lie down with Thatch and Stella for a while before I put things away. The AC and a couple of cool fans can work wonders, I hear.

I lost one way back when Rob and Mary Linda still lived upstairs and it was found 2 weeks ago when the washer and dryer were pulled away from the wall for our basement work.

That was around 4:00.  They immediately put me on an IV of insulin, and I was on IV's until just before midnight. Former DR Jose came up to stay with me and bought his new Smart Phone. To add insult to injury, my idiot doctor never answered his phone to the many calls the ER doctors made to him that night. I still believe the HMO finally sacked the bastard.

Richard and I were in town when this happened and were pleased that a day or 2 later you felt up to dinner at Artie’s:

I'm happy that Pen Farthing and his animals are boarded onto a cargo plane and ready to leave Kabul. I am so sorry that the Taliban would not let his Afghanistan staff leave as well, and I pray to God they will be safe in Kabul.

TOD

This is bad, but I don't even know if I've seen any of the films of Albert Brooks. I am, however, happy to say that I have Lost in America here, and it has assumed its position on the watch pile.

I finally got a chance to sit down with the Tonight's the Night Blu-ray, and I was even happier than expected to see the Outside the Box episodes again. I chose a couple at random, but couldn't stop so I ended up watching them all. Then I had to run out, but I sampled BK's commentary on the last one with Marshall Harvey, and it's excellent. I will soon watch them all straight through again with that track on.

You may remember that several weeks ago I asked for vibes for my dear friend Peter Foley. The cancer got him, and he died yesterday morning at 8:30. I was lucky to know and love him for twenty years. We met in Spring 2001 at the new Packard Humanities Institute office on East 72nd Street when we were summoned by John McGlinn to explain the project. He worked as one of my music copyists through the PHI days and was indispensable to me during the period 2011-2013 on recording Roberta, Eileen, and Dearest Enemy. He then assisted me on several small projects, the last being the dreadfully inept Carnegie Hall Babes in Toyland concert two or threee years ago. I will miss him.

He was a wonderful husband and father to Kate and Grace, and my heart bleeds for them.

I'm up, I'm up - was up at seven after three hours of sleep, back in bed at nine, so maybe I got seven hours of sleep. I don't think the Hollywood Show will be happening for me today. And now I'm dealing with a musical director who says he now can't do the anniversary show - his main gig is the Magic Castle. He gave them this date that he needed off weeks ago. And they booked him anyway. I told him he had to talk to them and make this right, but he just keeps saying they'll fire him, which they cannot. He's done this before - in fact, I had to rearrange the Group Rep show four times for him. Can't do it for this one, it's way too late in the game to find someone else, and I'm trying to hold in my annoyance right now because if I unleash and go to bad BK land HE will be as unhappy as I am.

He's nuts, that's the bottom line. I don't think he's actually picked up the phone to even talk to the guy who schedules him. I've told him to do so three times and he simply hasn't. So, I said that it's up to him to find a replacement for us, to work with him and make sure that when he walks in here for our first rehearsal that he knows exactly what he's doing. This isn't MY fault but that seems not to matter. He thinks he has someone and that person has done one of our shows before but Richard is going to have to lend him the electric piano that transposes easily and teach him how to use it. I'm just furious and it's NOT what I needed. I was seconds away from pulling the plug and just ending the Kritzerland shows - would be a shame, but 114 shows is pretty good for a run.

Die Meistersinger has sung - all four-and-a-half hours plus. I really enjoyed it. So, I've now heard Tristan and Isolde, Meistersinger, and Lohengrin. I'll try one of elmore's suggestions next. I'm not sure I need to hear The Ring cycle.
