The rest of the food was put out on the buffet, the turkey sliced and served and the Vixter put the rolls in to brown

Everyone was circling round the buffet table filling their plates when I noticed some puffs of smoke escaping the oven door

I warned the Vixter that her rolls seemed to be burning

So she opened the door and to flames and a cloud of acrid, eye watering smoke

She yelled for everyone to “get out of the house”, while I opened windows and doors to let the smoke out, my son in law ran to the neighbors to see if they had a fire extinguisher and everyone else continued filling their plates and grabbed their utensils and drinks before heading out into the dark yard

Then I spent some time in the bathroom washing my eyes with cold water and my son in law returned with a fire extinguisher

My mother comforted the only grandchild still speaking to her by bitterly and loudly  complaining that her oven was destroyed and that it would cost thousands of dollars and take months to replace and that all the rooms in the house would have to be repainted and the furniture would all smell like smoke forever and have to be thrown out

Anyway the dinner, albeit eaten sitting or standing in the outside dark, was delicious and fortunately the  weather was unseasonably mild

Once the smoke cleared out everyone came back in and the rest of the guests actually comforted Vixter by telling stories of holiday disasters and assuring her things were not as dire as a certain someone was saying

I have been reliably informed that the house and furniture  does not smell of smoke, there are no smoke marks on the walls and the oven works just fine

I myself did not join them as I did not wish to spend the rest of my life in prison for the crime of matricide.

Although I still contend I would  be found not guilty by reason of justifiable homicide by any reasonable jury of my peers

The one Sondheim show that I've actually been in so it holds a special place in my theater heart:
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (I played Hero)

Is there video anywhere?  That must have been fun.

That happy ending was such a relief!  Sorry you went through all that, vixmom.

This was excellent judgment.

DR vixmom, I would never find you guilty. I would instead wonder what took you so long to commit it.

Ron, sending condolences.  That was generous  to give everyone freedom to only concentrate on good aspects of her life in remembering her.
