First thing I did upon arising this morning was look out the window because we were expecting a touch of SN*W.

And sure enough, there it was. Only a "dusting", thank the universe. It's sticking to grass and trees, but not much else. The sun is bright and should burn it off soon.

Looks like we're safe over the next several days. Dodged a bullet there.

I like dodging bullets. Don't you?

It is Thursday here in Johnston SC.

Today promises to be enjoyable.  A friend from Fredericksburg VA is in nearby Edgefield to give expert audio forensics testimony in a murder trial.  He also happens to be the host of one of my weekly Zoom chats and just a heck of a nice guy. We met up a couple of months ago when he was here for pre-trial hearings, and we had lunch.  If all goes well, he will be testifying today, and we shall meet up for dinner.

Other than that, I am hope-hope-hoping that some items I have ordered over the past week -- items that have been shipped -- will arrive in the mail today.

You’re not going to the trial?

No.  I didn't do it.  It happened about one mile from where I live in the spring of 2018.  I was not a witness and don't know any of the participants, alive or departed.

"THE MUSIC MAN" is here!

I am pleased to announce the publication of ROBERT PRESTON, the newest play in THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS collection.  Copies are now available in both paperback and  Kindle editions via Amazon....and elsewhere.

True, he may be best remembered as “Professor Howard Hill” in THE MUSIC MAN, but Robert Preston had both a successful stage and film career that began in the mid-1930s and continued for the remainder of his life.

Of course, his public persona changed over the years.

In his early films, like UNION PACIFIC, BEAU GESTE, REAP THE WILD WIND and THIS GUN FOR HIRE, he played a “tough guy”; often the “heavy”. But, in the 1950s, he moved to New York and began working in the theatre.

Once he’d starred in Meredith Wilson’s classic musical and repeated the role in the movie version, Preston found himself being cast in many other stage musical, including BEN FRANKLIN IN PARIS, I DO! I DO! and MACK & MABEL, as well as major films like HOW THE WEST WAS WON, MAME, S.O.B. and VICTOR/VICTORIA.

My one-person play, ROBERT PRESTON, joins the actor at two different points in his life. First when he’s about to audition for THE MUSIC MAN, and also when he’s making one of his last films, THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

Who cares? All you do is show up here to pimp your latest bit of writing.

Last night I watched The Big Lebowski -- for no reason at all, except wanting to give myself one last chance to like it. I like a lot of Coen Bros.' films, but not all of them, and I never quite get past second base with this one.

The first third is entertaining, as are moments in the rest, and the cast is promising. But I never get through the whole thing without feeling the effort, so I think it's time to call it on this one.

NEXT!

I’m wondering what my blood sugar reading will be later. I had a late-night dessert. It was a weird panna cotta with all sorts of horrible crumble things on top. Too busy.

I only check my blood glucose once a day; fasting, first thing in the morning. I sometimes think it would be interesting to try a FreeStyle Libre-type continuous monitor, to see how things affect it in real time.

Today we may need to deal with cashing in an annuity....there is one more that may be a bit more complicated.

It would be nice if we could wait until Monday.  We shall see.
