Some fun people lined up for the Ray Courts Hollywood show in July! Besides my buddy Laurie Mitchell, there will be Mr. Rex Reason who was one of my very first favorite actors when I was a kid...Tony O'Dell from HEAD OF THE CLASS (who looks like he has aged very, very well!)...Mickey Rooney....Marcia Mae Jones...Our Gang's Edith Fellows...Ms. Shirley Jones...and R2 D2 himself, Kenny Baker...I am looking very forward to going!!

Kenny Baker was great in ONE TOUCH OF VENUS. But I always wondered how he fit into the R2 costume.

The only Olympics "memory" I have is the Hungarian Ommedes Thrust I know I've posted about. That happened some time in the'60s, though, so it's not MY memory. And luckily, it wasn't on TV.

MBarnum, I have been woefully behind in my movie watching. Yet, DJanssen and the CULT OF THE COBRA is slated for my next view.

I don't have The Wandering Minstrels. It is the one NCM LP that has evaded my grasp. Once, I even found the cover and when I went to make the purchase I looked inside and it was a Tony Bennett album in there or something. Maybe Jerry Vale.  Cruel.  Though I have nothing against Jerry Vale. And now you mention bonus tracks. Hmmm....

If you get the CD, does that mean you won't want the vinyl album?  Now that I have the CD, I don't have any need for the album that I got on eBay (it's only musical albums that I won't sell even after I get the CDs ;)).  If you want it (and don't mind that the cover is split at the top and bottom, but it sounds pretty good), I'd be more than happy to send it to you...if you want to have the vinyl just to have the vinyl.

Sandra, they showed fencing on TV, this most recent Olympics, and I found it pretty exciting to watch. Wonder why it isn't televised more.

Okay, to sleep I hie.

Oh absolutely, George. If you are willing to part with the vinyl, my Christy Minstrel Section of my record collection will no longer be broken by a lack of that LP.

Well, I'm going to go.  "Reno 911" is about to start and I also have to make another batch of fudge for work tomorrow.

I'm glad you want the album, Rodzinski!

Good Evening!

-When I got in the car after the show tonight, the first thing I heard was the weather report...

"It will be getting down to 85 degrees tonight."

DOWN to 85?!?!??!?!

And it's only the middle of June?!?!??!

UGH!

Like DR Rodzinski, I don't really mind heat that much - I guess it's a "benefit" of my Filipino heritage - but it really has just been oppressive today and yesterday.  Well, moreso today.  Even the breezes were hot today.  And the humidity.. UGH!  Like the rest of the eastern seaboard, the humidity is supposed to die down this weekend - and the temps should follow suit too.  We shall see...

*The soundman was checking out the weather report for his hometown of Miami, Florida.  It was only 83 degrees there today.  In Florida!

The show went fine.  I was sort of in a bad mood.  And they also put a new deck in yesterday, and had swapped out some sound equipment too, so my mix sounded very different.  -But the new stage deck looks great.  They're spiffing things up for the Canadian leg of the tour in a few weeks.  In any case...

I was still a bit annoyed that the contractor has yet to call me about the new schedule - the one that was sent to him on Sunday...  Apparently, I'm on for a few more shows this weekend too.  *But the assistant conductor is working with me on "something" - I'm gonna come in Sunday to play the rehearsals which are going to be held during the shows.  This way I'll get rehearsal pay AND show pay since the show pay is part of my regular "walking" scale, but the rehearsal pay comes from the company payroll.

Has anyone else besides me gotten the Classic Movie Musicals set on DVD.  It's fifty count them fifty public domain musicals in one set, at about thirty-five bucks.  The quality varies from film to film, with some of them looking quite okay (The Fabulous Dorseys) to not-so-hot, but none of them is so bad you can't watch and enjoy.  There are some incredible rarities in this set - check it out at amazon - it's called Classic Musicals DVD Collection, and someone has made a complete list of the films there.  Lots of PRC quickies, Martha Tilton and Jane Frazee, some rare Duke Ellington stuff, Lena Horne's first film - it's a treasure trove, really.
