Richard and I had a big day Friday.  We went to our county board of elections to vote in Tuesday's primary, then to Sharonville (Cincinnati 'burb) to see if one of our favorite lunch places survived the pandemic.  They did, indeed, and I thoroughly enjoyed my tuna melt.  From there, we found our way to a La Z Boy furniture gallery where we ordered ourselves new recliners for the family room.  We MIGHT have them by Christmas...

I am afraid I am in for a few weeks of not sleeping while waiting to get the scan and finding out the results.....but that's okay.

That's not surprising.

Speaking of not sleeping, I have given up on Glycine as a sleep aid.  It doesn't work very well, and swallowing a pill at night without food to push it down my esophagus just causes pain.

I am taking one in the morning instead.  Oops, which I forgot to do today as Keith keeps them on his night table.

DR ChasSmith, our last stop Friday was Graeter's.  We had ice cream, of course, and I brought home 2 cinnamon squares and 2 cheese crowns.  They've changed the cinnamon squares, replacing the powdered sugar with drizzled icing on top - not the same.  Cheese crowns are as good as ever, but I removed most of the heavy white icing.  Richard did not and wished he had.

Will you let them know you are not happy with the change?  I can't think of any pastries I order that have drizzled frosting, powdered sugar yes.

She actually said 7-10 months.  But then she said to check back with them in about 4 months (around Labor Day) to see what's what.

Probably not, DR Jane.  I rarely buy baked goods at Graeter's; I prefer to support our local shops - Central Pastry and Milton's Donuts.

I'll have to leave early, however, so that I can hie myself down to Centralia for the Mamma Mia! weekly Covid-19 test then cue-to-cue.

Just finished a weekly Zoom chat with like-minded film music/film enthusiasts.

Oddly, we didn't discuss music for nearly two hours.

The documentary about the making of the Fiddler on the Roof movie made $5,000 this weekend. I can’t see it going into wide release.

If it sells well, it won't be.

Does anyone know when they stopped making Nilla Wafers with vanilla?

With a bit of googling I found the following:

As common as vanilla may be as a flavor nowadays, there was once a point in history when it was a rare commodity, according to Scientific American. That's because, at the time, things that were flavored "vanilla" had to be made with actual vanilla beans, or, at the very least, extract of vanilla beans. Of course, that hasn't been the case since the turn of the 20th century, which is when chemists invented "vanillin," which can be manufactured without a lick of actual vanilla bean. Rather, Scientific American reports that vanillin can be "synthesized variously from pine bark, clove oil, rice bran, and lignin." And since that time, "of the roughly 18,000 metric tons of vanilla flavor produced annually, about 85% is vanillin synthesized from the petrochemical precursor guaiacol," with the rest from lignin.

I don't see any vanillin in the ingredients.
