Topic of the Day:  the only one that I know that I've seen was Cloverfield.  I think I remember liking it because I had never seen a movie like that.

I had a terrible night of sleep. I could not get comfortable and my legs were both aching and very restless. I did a lot of kicking and tossing. Thatch stayed with me; Annabelle ran for the hills.

TOD
i had forgotten Cloverfield, which I sorta liked.
The Blair Witch Project, which I saw on its opeing day, however, managed to get under my skin and completely terrify me. I had nightmares for weeks about those twig figures and rock patterns. I remember that after seeing The Exorcist, my sister-in-law at the time was so frazzled and terrified that she had serious fewars of the dark and sought help from a local Catholic priest. I mocked her for all that. Well, The Blair Witch was payback.

I looked up found footage movies and realized most are slasher films. Not my cuppa. I saw Blair Witch and was bored.

My Facebook memories reminded me that August has been a pretty gfood month for me so that bodes well for the property sale.

Six years ago today, we had our York Theatre reading of Moonshine and Mistletoe, now coyly retitled (ugh!) Up on Mistletoe Mountain, because of concerns that "moonshine" might offend potential teetotalers. Oy!

TOD

I believe I have only watched two found footage movies, Blair Witch and Apollo 18. I, too, saw the former on its opening day at a movie theeder, and enjoyed being taken in by it. It was the final image that most spooked me. Years later, the subject matter of the latter was irresistible, and I enjoyed that one, too.

I've seen a few bits and pieces of others that Kristi and Nathan have watched on the TV, because they like the formula, but they all look and sound alike to me. So other than the witch and space program ones, I'll pass until someone comes along with one involving some other subject matter I'm crazy about.

God, I hope they change that title back, DR Elmore. And sooner rather than later. What do they think this is, anyway, the ferkakte Hallmark Channel?

Curiously, I received an email this morning from the director of the wonderful Kansas City Chorale in respomse to an inqiry I had made. He asked to see a copy of my Four Provencal Carols. I just sent him a pdf of the full score.

Yes, I wish my collaborator, who's irked me by not asking my opinion before changing the title, would revert to M & M. I like the fact that moonshine can refer to the light ofg the moon or a liquor, especially sicne our comic character is a moonshiner and there's even a song. Our producer had a Hallmark writer do a telescript that was not only embarrassing but completely unresearched with no knowledge of  depression-era Appalachia, depression poverty of the 1930s, holler architecture, or the characters. I couldn't finish the script.

TOD:

The restored "Cleopatra" (1963).  I think it was improved by the additional footage.

The restored "A Star is Born" (1954) -- Immeasurably enhanced by the restoration.

I have seen television presentations of films with cut footage added in.  "Supereman" was one such film.   It wasn't hurt by the cuts.

I once saw "Out of Africa" on TV with a lot of additional footage.  As it's one of my favorite films ever, I have to say I was intrigued and would love to have access to it again.

On the first DVD of "The Accidental Tourist" (and this may have been carried over to the blu ray release), they had outtakes that never made the final cut.  Many of the scenes were Kathleen Turner's, and her character was deeper and more sympathetic than in the final cut.

Then there is "South Pacific", the original roadshow version with about 17 extra minutes.  What an improvement those minutes were for the character of Luther Billis.  Ray Walston had always irritated me with what I presumed was a boiled ham performance.  They cut the heart and soul out of his performance, IMO.   And then there was the additional scoring -- ORIGINAL work by Alfred Newman -- that accompanied scenes not in the play, but in keeping with the film.
