In October 2017, my friend Martin Yates asked me to write a holiday overture for the Christmas concerts of his company, West End International. I bugged him to get a sound system recording of the piece, but he told me the sound men and union wouldn't allow it. In 2018, he surprised me with a recording he or his wife Alison made on their cell phone. Several cuts were made, mostly by cutting the second A sections of "It's the Most Wonderful Time" and "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm," but there are a couple - the intro to "Mary's Boy Child" and a snippet of the fugue - I'd like to see restored. I wish there were a better recording, but I think this will do for now.

So, here's Martin's edit of my overture, conducted by Michael England  with the Royal Northern Sinfonia. Enjoy!

All, I need your strongest vibes and xylophones for tomorrow! I am getting sick. I think it's just a cold, but my throat is fuzzy and I'm feverish. I do not want to postpone tomorrow's surgery.

HELP!!!

I'm up, I'm up - eleven and a half hours of sleep - guess I needed that. Many dreams, of which I remember only one thing - at some point in whatever the last dream was, I said, "This is a stupid dream."

I was planning to go out and get something to bring back here, food-wise, but I may just order in. Although, I could use some fresh air.

Today my DD and I saw a local production of Cinderella.  They did a great job, but I don't like the current book of the musical.

But you can't go wrong with Rodgers and Hammerstein.
