Need to get into a holiday mood? I recommend George Balanchine's NYC Ballet production of The Nutcracker, the greatest and best of all possible Nutcrackers. Balanchine's staging of the Christmas party and the children is so wonderful. Jerome Robbins' battle between the mice and the toys - staged around the time he directed Mary Martin in Peter Pan - contains the same humor and whimsy, and the two show pieces, the Snowflakes and the Waltz of the Flowers, are Balanchine at his best.

Extra bonus? Tiler Peck is the leading Marzipan shepherdess!

The concerts are over, and I couldn't be happier.

Well, yes I could, actually. It would sure be a lot nicer if I didn't have COVID.

But I didn't get it at the high school this time. I've apparently been carrying it with me since the weekend when we closed Smorgasbord! All four in the cast, plus one spouse, the director, the bass player, and now me, are the fallen soldiers so far.

Head cold variety again, but this time I said the HELL with it and started taking the Paxlovid I've had sitting here since May. The others are taking it and are swearing by it.
