I had a very nice night's sleep. I woke up around 6 a.m. and could not go back to sleep, so I guess I am up until I need a nap.

I am having a memory, as I type, of being a kid on Christmas morning and not being able to stand the excitement of what Santa Claus might have brought to me.

My folks always implored me to stay in bed until light came through my window. It was danged hard...and sometimes I would peek into the living room at the tree before it was light.

The cats and I slept in this morning. Last night I watched the film of My Fair Lady, and I did not get to bed until sometime after 10:30. I hadn't seen the movie in years. I first saw it when I was home from college on the Thanksgiving weekend after it was released. I liked it very much then, but now I think it's too long. Lerner's stage libretto is more concise than his screenplay.

Still, I love the score, the cast, and Beaton's costumes. Hepburn's entrance into Ascot in that black and white gown and enormous hat is still one helluva stunning coup de theatre.

I also watched the original Miracle on 34th Street, which is jam-packed with wonderful character actors. I wanted to watch the remake last night, but it wasn't on Amazon Prime.

Vixmom, our previous pastor wouldn't let us use candles for singing Silent Night. We used LED tealights. Kinda kills the feeling, in my opinion.
