I got a text from my supervisor about 15 minutes before I was supposed to be at work that she was taking the day off!  Wait...aren't we supposed to have today off as New Year's Day observed??

Nope!  State workers (like my sister) get it off, but we're not state workers!

I (MOST fortunately) was at least awake, so I rushed myself into the shower, quickly got dressed, then (safely) rushed myself to work just in time to realize that I forgot my key card! ::)

Fortunately (again), I could just walk around to the back of the building and be let in there, so I was able to make it in time!  WHEW!!

I also think it's kind of unfair that you lose the holiday.

DR George how did you not know you had work today?  Don't they usually notify you of your days off?

After I got laid off about 12 years ago, I started up a food web site that had a good, seven-year run. In the early years, I tried dishes that were new to me. One was Welsh rarebit. Good stuff. It’s also when I learned the valuable lesson that if you wanted cheese to melt, don’t use the already shredded stuff.

Your website is no more?

Not for a few years.

I didn’t realize Damien Lewis’s musical chops. They’d mentioned him a few years back in a revival of Me and My Girl. I say bring it on.

With all the dogs we had and the kids leaving stuff out, only a cat ever ate homework ;D

The dog ate did my homework.
