I googled It’s-It and found it is sold at Safeway stores, not sure if mine sells them.

Hello.

Bruce, thank you for sharing the sad news of my mother’s passing.

I am not dealing with it well, but it’s only been 2 weeks.

I am sorry Iris, it is really hard losing a parent and then there is so much to deal with.

But in searching the Innerwebs about it, I discovered that you can purchase a box o' candy from the year you were born. Just type in "Retro Candy 19XX" in Amazon's search box. It ain't cheap, but it might be fun. And spark reminiscences. My mother's birthday is later this month, so I just ordered a box from her year of birth.

That was interesting.  I don't remember one of the items, Round Up, which look like it might be candy cigarettes.

Keith's box, one year later, is similar to mine.  One slight difference is that it has Victory cigarettes.

Wow, my children are so old they even have retro boxes, and they too include candy cigarettes.

West-Coasters will have to get up awfully early to participate. Of course, there's always DVRs.

That is, if you have any interest at all. Many don't.

I will watch clips off of the internet.  I am sure there will be plenty.

Even though I don't think the son will be able to measure up to his dear departed mum.

No but it is better that he didn't become king when he was younger.

I looked it up and found this:

Back in 1956, food chemist, William A Mitchell invented Pop Rocks for General Foods, while trying to make an instant soft drink. But this little piggy did not go to market until 1975.

Interesting.

Just learned about Encacahuatadas. enchiladas in a spicy peanut sauce. Gimme some. With cacahuate chess pie on the side.

That's pretty cool.

I just did that and here's the candy from the dark ages:

I cannot believe it was thirty years ago that BK called me about orchestrating a recording. Ever since I mentioned that on Zoom last night I've been thinking 30 years?

Not even remotely.  And that harridan of a queen consort!  Blech!

DR Iris:   I, too, wish you well in dealing with your mother's passing.

My mom died in August 2018.  I dealt with it...but my private moments were horrendous.  I had some crying jags.  I guess I was feeling sorry for myself, because I expected to have more time with her.  I also cried because I didn't really grasp how ill she was until her last week.

Even today, if I think on it as I am doing now, it is difficult.

I am completely orphaned.

I am nobody's "son" anymore.

Back from banking - no waits either bank, then a quick trip to Gelson's for Diet Coke, tuna, onion rolls, and a few other necessities.

I have edited my review for SAMI to take out the knock - that was unwarranted.  I also added a few more sentences.

It might take a couple of days we shall see.

Jrand, thanks. First episodes are always a tough line to walk - we're meeting the characters for the very first time, but I tried to make it as funny as possible, too, so we had balance.

John Wilson is turning out to be a wonderful conductor and advocate of film and theater music for his orchestra. I have quite a few of his recordings. And great sound on this video.

John's a friend I met through Kim Criswell. He's asked me for casting thoughts when he needs an American singer and I happen to know them. I recommended Ben Davis to him for his Kiss Me Kate at the Proms, and Kyle Guglielmo and Nate Hackmann for his Oklahoma! He chose Nate.

There's a moment in the Oklahoma! overture, in the transition from "Out of My Dreams" to "People Will Say We're in Love" that John settles into the new tempo and smiles with pleasure  that I just adore. Also, his Laurie is Scarlett Strallen, who had the lead in the Encores! The New Yorkers.

You are most welcome MR BK.  It should show up in a few days.

I also made sure to add that Sami is not SAMI - in so many words after the discussion at the ZOOM meeting last night.
