I am awake in the middle of the night.

I woke up at 3:00 and did not fall back to sleep.

We are told they've special-ordered the part, and that they should be able to install it today (Friday), so I have my fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed.

Bruce, you have an excellent memory!

Elyse did indeed join us the night we had dinner with Tony Walton and many others at Joe Allen.

I enjoyed listening to the two of you, such amusing banter!

George, I forgot to mention how much I like what you did with the two Seurat images.

That’s the art of making art!

Great Performances on PBS tonight is “Celebrating 50 Years of Broadway’s Best”.

It was filmed at Lincoln Center on March 23. A friend of mine attended and really enjoyed it.

It’s on tonight at 9pm on this coast, but check your local listings.

After this frustrating week of bad health, I am a bit leery of stepping out today. Unfortunately, since it's my one day out this week, I've crammed it with errands. I need the barber visit badly, and I hope my walk there goes well. Access-a-Ride is picking me up there for my three-month checkup and surgical clearance. I'm expecting hell from my doctor since my A1C has risen from 6.3 to 7.0. After that, AAR will drop me off at the local Staples so I can scan ballet No. 16 and five pages of fixes to No. 7. I will be very happy to get home and happier if there are no grisly health messes along the way.

The doctor and I will be addressing these issues today. If it's something serious orchronic, I'm canceling the surgery to a later date.

Last night I began reading Caryl Brahms' A Bullet in the Ballet. The star dancer of the Stroganoff Ballet company has been shot during a performance of Petrushka.

Alas, nothing.

One more week of this madness, then a more normal schedule that will allow time for some leisurely activities.

Tonight I’m schlepping the gear out to a dress rehearsal for the Ridgefield Chorale. It’s a semi-annual (?) concert they give, and it’s accompanied by a ten-piece band. It’s a new thing for me, and both the Chorale and the players around me are excellent. The concert is tomorrow night.

Once upon a time, I would be giddy about it being Friday.  Not now, though.  Friday is just another day that is easily indistinguishable from the other week days.

This week might just as well have been several Fridays strung together.

But, then, there was Thursday.

That's right.  Yesterday was Thursday, and it wasn't like a Friday at all.

I knew that my day was going to be somewhat busy because I had a doctor's appointment in Aiken SC at 11 a.m., and I knew I would do a return trip to Sam's Club before heading home.

I made a hasty appointment before leaving the house to get a haircut in the afternoon.  Happily, my barber could work me in at 2:30.

I know that sounds rather mundane, but I have left something out.

Thursday evening, I was slated to join my cousin Butch and his fiancee Sharon at the club for an Eyetalian supper that would be followed by a play performed by Edgefield's Main Street Players.

None of us knew what the play was about but as it was being performed in the main dining room of the club, I figured it would be skit-like and last 40 minutes or so.

And for this part of South Carolina, it was something different from sitting home and watching TV.  Vastly different!

At 6 p.m., we met at the club.  We claimed our table and went through the buffet line.  The Eyetalian fare was spaghetti bolognese and lasagna..  There was also freshly ground parmesan, galice toast, and a quite nice salad with three different dressings (ranch, bleu cheese and a balsamic/olive oil).

I did not take a head count, but the room had about 50 people.  The food was good, the ambience cheerful, and exactly at 7 p.m. the entertainment began.

The co-directors, both local women with whom I am acquainted, addressed us.

One informed us that the presentation would be like "reader's theater".  In other words, while the actors did know their lines, they would be reading from scripts as well.

And, the show would last two hours, with intermission.

Oh.

My.

God.

The theme of the play was about four guys playing golf the day after their 15th college class reunion.

Because of the age of the actors, however, we were informed -- wink, wink, nudge, nudge -- it would seem like their 45th reunion.  (Ha!-Ha!  Tee-Hee!  Giggle-giggle and itchy-kitschy-coo!)

If I haven't correctly expressed my state of mind as the play got underway, I apologize.

Two hours seemed interminable before the first word was uttered.

The play is called "The Foursome" and was written by Norm Foster.  Play licensed from the Dramatists Play Service.
