  I have images of you walking around the parking lot pressing the lock button on your key remote and looking to see which black car flashes its lights.

I have been very grateful for that feature when trying to find my parked rental car. Especailly when I didn't even recall what it looked like.

I have such a photo of me in a shirt...and I recall thinking it looked SO GOOD on me.

Now, I am happy I wasn't simply shot on sight by the fashion police.

I prefer my chili without beans, but don't mind if there aren't too many beans.

It's all a matter of where you learned to eat chili, I think.

I have always enjoyed a hot dog with mustard, onions and bean-less chili.

When I was in Oakland, I learned that a place called Kasper's had great chili hot dogs.   I figured it was true, because there was always a police car or two in their parking lot.

So, one evening after work, I stopped in and asked for two chili dogs to go.

I saw them take the buns, apply mustard, the wieners and onions and then they held each dog over a pot and ladled some liquid over the hot dogs.

I looked at them rather suspiciously and then asked what they had put on my hot dogs.

The server looked at me incredulously and declared it to have been chili.  To my eyes, it looked like colored water with beans. 

I suggested, as I was leaving, that they refresh themselves on the concept of chili and start using ground beef to give it substance.  That chili powder in water with beans is NOT chili.

I never went back.

   I am guessing it tasted as bad as it sounds.

These days I take a photo of the car & license.  It helps, still I need to use the key feature.

Yesterday I had a dental hygiene appointment. There's a bakery next door, an obligatory stop given the day. I usually buy a couple of their mini pies, but yesterday they had German Chocolate Cake, too. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding! I LOVE German Chocolate Cake. Just one slice. Even then it's too much for me to eat all at once.

Then to the bookstore to look for bookmarks. They had one I liked, so I bought that. A falafel wrap at the Kebab shop, then home.

So many changes throughout LA. The space next door to the bakery opened up and the bakery grabbed it and expanded. The restaurant across the street closed and that space is up for grabs. The bookstore, which opened just after Covid started, has managed to stay in business, thankfully. Every time I drive down a street I haven't been on in a while I'm amazed at the changes. Some good, some regretful. Understandable, but I'm not happy to see it.
