I should still be asleep but Mrs R found a dead worm she thought was a snake and I was awoken to handle the matter.

Does anyone remember their FIRST studio cast album?

My family's first was a South Pacific that literally had to have been found for 49 cents in a grocery store. This was before we had a real cast album in the house. (We had records, but no shows then.) I was about ten years old, and I tried - oh, how I tried - to tell myself that it was delivering the magic of the show, but it was not for another year that we got the real thing in the gatefold jacket, and I thought I died and went to heaven.

Another year later, I bought my own first studio cast album:  the Nelson Eddy Oklahoma!, specifically because it included two songs I hadn't heard yet on a recording.

Finally, the Mel Tormé Porgy and Bess box set, which initially was a disappointment to little DR ChasSmith because he didn't know he wasn't getting the original score in that one. I learned to appreciate it later, and it's still here in beautiful condition. Mine even has the red handkerchief in the cover, which it seems has been lost from many copies over the years.

After those, who the hell knows, but that's my start in studio cast albums.

TOD:

Annie Get Your Gun with Doris Day & Robert Goulet
Showboat with Barbara Cook & John Raitt & (especially Anita Darian as Julie).  I later bought an LP by Anita Darian and it was glorious.
Oklahoma! with Florence Henderson & John Raitt & Phyllis Newman

And a few others - but these three are my favorite.

Here's my #1, which as I recall, didn't list a single person or entity involved!

You're rather cvague on whose studio recordings these are, since there are several different studio cast recordings of some of these.

I forgot John Yap's complete Kismet. I love it.

She saw that that big one is an Amazon box, which means it's rightfully theirs.
