I meant to say it yesterday, but DR Elmore reminds me:

People no longer care what they say on the phone. As representatives of a business, they should know what they’re talking about. But they often don’t, and they too often just say something that will end the call so they can move on to the next. They’re rarely identifiable (even when you do recall the name of whomever you spoke with), and they’re not held accountable.

What irks the heck out of me is that I will answer the phone, and the male voice on the other end will say one of two things:

"Barbara?"

or

"Mrs. Pulliam"?

My response to both comments is "Do I SOUND like Barbara/Mrs. Pulliam?"

If they don't hang up immediately, I'll ask the Barbara inquirers if they knew my mom...because if they didn't, using her first name was very disrespectful.

No call has ever gone further than that.

That has got to be very frustrating.

When the DH gets calls for "Mrs ____" he just replies, "I'm sorry; we've had to put mother in a home."

LOL.

Another movie response could be:  "She can't come to the phone now.  She went to s**t and the hogs ate her!"

The last sentence is from "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore".  Apologies for the crudeness.

Good Morning.  Dress rehearsal went well last night - except for the banjo player.... there's always one.  There was a point where no one came in at the right place for a certain song.  Some even asked if we "weren't singing there anymore" - My favorite was "When does the music start?  What line?"  I simply replied "The music starts when the music starts" - I may have said that several times in the conversation.  Truthfully, the music has been starting at the same place for weeks now - because I start the music!!   This cast has a really bad habit of listening to other people for cues when they should be listening to the actual music.  Anyway, I digress.... it's a good show.  I hope people like it.

Mostly a good thing.

I think Niven's books were "Bring On The Empty Horses" and "The Moon's A Balloon"....but since I didn't do a search, I could be wrong.

I always think of that phrase when someone shows me a picture of a new baby and it looks like a nose with eyes.

"Well, bless it's little heart......"

Joe Biden is riding around on a bicycle and looks like he's ready to fall over any moment......DJT is walking down the ramp of his jet with his dumb hair blowing in the wind.....on his way to his arraignment....

I just keep thinking.....these are the two best candidates we have?  This is our choice?

"Bless your heart" in my experience was sort of alternate way of saying, "Oh you poor thing." Could be said with added condescension to indicate someone thinks you did/said something daft or foolish.

BUT, it could also be used in a sweet way like you come in from the rain dripping wet and your aunt is like "Bless your heart!"

Thanks.  Either meaning is appropriate.

I take "no problem" in a nice way in which it is usually intended. Someone saying that helpful thing you did was no big deal and they were happy to help.

If I was running a 5-star hotel or restaurant, I would not instruct my staff to say it as it sounds a bit casual, but otherwise, I've never actually heard that it was impolite or implied anything negative.

I like reading all these responses.

I'm up, I'm up - six and a half hours of very non-consecutive sleep.

I had about an hour and a half, tops two hours of sleep.

In this case, the answer isn't blowing in the wind.

I'm on MSNBC while I cook broccoli and cauliflower. I just want them to take the Fat Orange Baboon to a wall, blindfold him, and shoot him.

Life is full of disappointments.

Frank Sinatra is exhorting me to do the Huckle-Buck.

When I was a lad, I had the 45 version on the Roulette label sung by Georgia Gibbs!

I researched and you are correct.

Director Michael Curtiz, who did not have an excellent command of English, shouted "Bring on the empty horses," meaning the "riderless horses" while directing "The Charge of the Light Brigade'" (1936)_; David Niven used this as the title of his second autobiographical memoir about the Golden Age of Hollywood.

I am "off the hook", as it were, regarding a visit from an old friend early next week.  I begged off, explained why, and he took it very well, insisting that the next visit he makes (in roughly six months) we can either meet up somewhere for a few hours or he can visit if it's all right.

I am so relieved.

My allergy visit went well.

Went to CostCo and got all I needed, except for blueberry muffins.

CostCo has this habit of making it a required two-container purchase, but they don't combine the (six-muffin) containers.

I don't want a dozen muffins, and I don't want to freeze any for later.

Sam's Club has no restrictions, so I'll get my muffins next week.
