DR Iris (and anyone else interested in my opinion on "The White Lotus"):
I finished Season 2 this evening. It is so vastly different from Season 1, both in location, tone and charm (i.e. it has none).
I think the actors are all pretty much first-rate with the exception, sorry to say, of Jennifer Coolidge. Yes, I know she won an Emmy for playing Tanya McQuoid in the first season, but her character went a long way in the first season and I needed a rest from her. Here, she was nearly unbearable, despite the interesting developments in the last couple of episodes.
My favorite characters were the Di Grassos -- F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli and Adam DiMarco. Loved the family dynamic and the fact that they were all sex-addicted souls trying to cope in a world where that male attribute is despised.
I liked the younger couples, as well, and I really liked Portia, the assistant to Tanya who was so badly treated by Tanya (Coolidge) that it made me despise that character even more.
Where was the humor? I couldn't find any. Where was the wit? Non-existent.
I understand Season 3 will be set in Thailand. One was in Hawaii and two was in Sicily. At least they are mixing it up and showing us nice landscapes. And Coolidge will NOT return for future seasons!!
I loved the nighttime shots of Mt. Etna erupting.
