I'm up, I'm up - a bit more than seven hours of sleep - might try for another hour at some point. Congested a bit, but the Claritin is working at least, but I've VERY tired of feeling like this. And every allergy sufferer I know says this has been the worst two weeks in ages.

Thursday afternoon greetings!  We are packing and purging like fiends around here.  This morning we took a load of stuff to my AAUW friends who are setting up next month’s holiday bazaar.

I am sure you are very motivated and driven to get this done.

Seems like we’ve been at this forever.

Test books are at the printer. We had a bit of a hiccup - it should have gone last Thursday, but Monday I got a weird e-mail asking me if the cover's title treatment was slightly off-center - it's kind of an optical illusion due to the font, but I'd already approved it because it's the cover Doug designed. The email came from someone on the design team on behalf of the guy who runs that department who I normally deal with. She said he was out of the office unexpectedly, which was a first in over fifteen years of working with him. Anyway, I said it was fine but then got no confirmation. My gal that I deal with was out sick and could not get anyone to respond, take a call, or put me through to someone who'd just confirm and assure me the book was on its way to the printers.

I had frustrating attempts on Tuesday, but yesterday I put on my don't mess with me pants and finally the gal who'd written the email left a message explaining everything that had been happening. Before I heard it, someone else on the team finally took the call and she told me the story, too. Turns out, the head guy was in a bad car accident on Friday and is now recuperating in a hospital. They just wanted to be sure about the cover, but had gotten my okay and were proceeding with the process themselves. So, all's well that ends well and I removed my don't mess with me pants.

A gracious good Thursday afternoon, to ye gentle folk!

My day has been nondescript, but I have broken down a lot of cardboard and loaded it into the back of my Nissan Rogue for a stop at the recycling center tomorrow when I go to get my haircut.

It's overcast here today. Current temp. is 61 degrees.

I also did not have any coffee cake with my morning cup of coffee.

Instead, I had a toasted "everything" bagel...two bags of which I bought at CostCo yesterday.

Funny thing about CostCo:  Just like muffins, you cannot buy just ONE package of anything.  The price is for TWO, and you cannot just pay that price for one package.  You either take both or you get NONE.

Thank goodness I have a freezer!

The most important CostCo news was this:  Regular gas was $2.75/gallon.

I have a consultation scheduled November 14 with a GI specialist in Augusta.

It's time for a colonoscopy, and the VA gave me the option of going to them or to an outside facility.  I opted for outside.  The hospital is two blocks from the VA, but the parking is much better.

AI concerns me because I’m looking for an editorial job and worried that I’ve become obsolete like in that Twilight Zone episode.

You will never be obsolete, dude!

Today I bought a book about the Titanic at the Goodwill....titled "Unsinkable" by Daniel Allen Butler published in 1998.

I can't remember that I ever read it and I can't tell that I have it on my Titanic shelves....so we shall see.

You have "Titanic shelves"?   SHELVES?  How many?

Page Two......not ONE GD number did I have in the PowerBall drawing last night....

NOT ONE GD NUMBER.

No GD number?

Do that stand for a "George Dougherty" number?

Or, does it stand for a "Gosh Darned" number?

Inquiring minds want to know!

TOD continued:

I know that discussion about A.I. seemed to intensify when they used it to complete Carrie Fisher's scenes in one of the "Star Wars" sequel thingies.

And a lot of talk ensued about whether film makers might do that for other films and, inevitably, to replace actors with A.I.

And then the A.I. writing scandal broke (about people using it to write theses and stuff) and the next thing you know, all writers became threatened that A.I. might replace them, and then actors became threatened that their likenesses might be compromised in similar ways.

All I know is, no A.I. program will ever be as contrary as I am...or as unique as all of us.

I had a nice bath, fed the cats their dinner, and I made myself some ravioli. I've had MSNBC on for company, and the horrors and atrocities from from Israel leave me in shock. I haven't posted about any of this because words fail me. On Facebook, the wonderful John Boswell posted this:

That's it, no suggestions on how we can get out of the garage or if that was even possible.
