On This Day in 1955, the first domestic microwave ovens went on sale to the public.
I never even knew about microwave ovens until twenty years later when I started working at Litton Industries in Beverly Hills and began learning about their product lines, chief of which on the consumer end was the Litton microwave oven. I never did have one of theirs (no place to put it where I was living in those days, and quite pricey besides), but my parents bought a Litton that next year or so and loved it.
So when was my first one? I think it had to be my condo in West Hollywood in 1986-89, which had built-ins.
