I have only just gotten up, sorry to say.  It is 9:37 a.m., EST, and the sun is shining beautifully, the sky is blue and cloudless, and I have no appointments, no workers coming, no obligations whatsoever for the remainder of the week.

i do need to schedule a haircut, and I will make an appointment for either tomorrow or Friday.

TOD:

I was never big on soaps in their golden heydays.  My paternal grandmother would visit us for at least 6 weeks every year, and when she was with us the TV was hers for "The Secret Storm".  Lord have mercy, those opening waves crashed mightily and loudly every weekday afternoon.

I paid no attention to the story.  It wasn't "Sea Hunt", after all, which was my favorite afternoon show at that time.

I will admit to having seen the very first episodes of "All My Childre" back in the late 1960s.  I was home from college, working a night shift somewhere, and when I was out of bed and the TV was turned on, there the show was all fresh and new.  It had a couple of youngsters on it who went by the professional names of Karen Gorney and Richard Hatch.  Theirs was a young love that adults attempted to dissuade for some reason or other.

My viewership of that show lasted only as long as my night shift job lasted.

TOD Redux:  I can also report that when I was an instructor of journalism at the Defense Information School, located at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, in the late 70s-early 80s, the big daytime story was that of Luke and Laura on "General Hospital".

Not that any of us got to watch the show, but the school also taught broadcasting and we had TVs in all the classrooms, so some folks occasionally caught an episode if they weren't teaching and then shared the doings with the rest of us.

When the wedding -- as in "THE WEDDING" -- took place, anyone not teaching a class was watching as it happened.

Once in high school, I was home sick with the flu. So Mom went out to deliver the afternoon newspapers for me. I watched Search for Tomorrow for Mom because big doings were happening. Eunice, Morgan Fairchild’s mother, died on that episode. So I left her a note saying “Eunice died.”

I then went off to sleep. My dad came home from work, saw the note and blew a gasket. He thought the note was about his cousin Eunice and that his side of the family was being disrespected because there were no further details.

He was not appeased when he did learn the truth. In fact, it made him angrier. He never laughed at that story. But we did.

but can't imagine how I'd have watched it when it was first on while I was in school, so it might be from the movies and the books at first

Maybe there's a play in that!

Tonight I venture in Manhattan after work to See Neil Gaiman at The Town Hall.

He will be impersonating Charles Dickens and reading A Christmas Carol.

Cool.

I had to forgo sleeping with my CPAP last night, as the doctor was concerned it might dry out the wound in my mouth too much.

That makes sense.  Were you able to sleep ok?

DR George I recall a problem a number of years back where many of us had to reset the clock here.  I don't remember how we did it.

A couple of weeks before we were married I left my job.  That first month of June in 1969, before finding a new job, I watched a soap opera for awhile.  I was bored out of my mind and stopped.  About a year later a friend, along with her friend, crashed with us for awhile.  The friend watched the same soap and I was shocked that very little in the story had changed from the month when I watched it.
