Favorite title songs:

Mame
Seesaw
Applause

Favorite act two openers:

The Bilbao Song (at least it opened Act II in one Happy End production I saw)
Hey There Good Times
Come Follow the Band
Elegance

Also, the title song of "Woman of the Year" was one of my favorites for a long time, until people started to explain to me what was wrong with the song and that ruined it for me, not totally, but enough to put it as a footnote rather than on the list proper.

Re: last night's episode of Big Brother 6.

DR MattH, Maggie and Kaysar were reading birthday cards from their families (it was both of their birthdays).

DR Cillaliz, you didn't miss too much.  They are so far behind and didn't even show ANY of howie's antics.  They left off with the veto meeting and kaysar et al finding out they were screwed.

It really bugs me that theyw ill catch up on all the good stuff during the live show. I would have definitely showed that LAST NIGHT. Oh well.

I wasn't happy with Jennifer choosing Kaysar to replace Rachel...I was so enjoying Kaysar's return....on the other hand I have been impressed with Jen, as she is a stronger player that I had thought!

Good Morning!

Looks like another beautiful day outside my window!  -Up until Sunday night, the forecast was for rain most of the week.

In any case... I'm up.

Greetings all.

Happy Birthday, DR SWW.

TOD:
Many of my faves have been mentioned already, but the overwhelming favorite in my case would have to be MAME.

(DR FJL, I was also partial to WOMAN OF THE YEAR, and am intrigued by your comments about its incorrectness.  I am assuming that you mean muscially, though some of the lyrics are rather stilted as well.  But I am curious about your thoughts....)

Second act openers:  "Come Follow the Band" and "Hey There, Good Times" both leapt immediately to mind, and have previously been mentioned.  Though I am not crazy about the show, "This Was a Real Nice Clambake" does do a nice job of filling us in on what we missed during intermission.  (As does "Intermission Talk.")  I am sure I will think of more later.

Note to DR MattH:
I, too, saw NICK & NORA.  Though it was not my most thrilling evening in the theatre, I didn't think it was the abomination that everyone else seemed to.  I thought there were some very nice moments, and still pull out the CD to give it a listen every now and again.

Topic of the Day:

Title Songs:
"Anyone Can Whistle"
"Sunday in the Park with George"
"Company"
"Eating Raoul"

Second Act Openers
"It's Hot in Here"
"God, That's Good"
"Under Attack" - more for the purposely kitschy staging.

And a bunch more in each category that just aren't coming to mind right now.

Jose, I was gonna list "Under Attack," too, but I didn't have the cojones to do it. I like that number!

I just realized that "Chip's Lament" USED to be the opening of act two (SPELLING BEE), but there's no intermission anymore! Does it still count?

...I wasn't sure about listing it either - especially in the company of Mr. Sondheim.

Well...  I was gonna get ready to head out, but I started playing the OCR for Violet...  "I'm On My Way" still gives me goosebumps!  and a few tears too.

I have to admit, when I first read the title The Bad Sleep Well, I didn't realize it was supposed to be a complete sentence.  I thought it was a reference to a place.

I wondered, what the heck is a sleep well?  Is it a place where sleep is kept?  How deep does it have to be?  And what would make a bad sleep well, as opposed to a good sleep well or a light sleep well?  Does a bad sleep well leak?  Or does it have a drain that's clogged, so the sleep can't drain out?

And what about that light sleep well?  Does it have a flashing neon sign right outside, like in some cheap hotel in a film noir?

LOL I thought the same thing until I read your post!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY S WOODY!!

The first title son that came to my mind when I was reading the notes was "Mame," so I guess I'd put it in first.

Reading other suggestions from fellow DRS reminded me of so many more that I love: "Anyone Can Whistle," "Company," "Applause."

And let me add one for that show I'm always supporting: "Coco."

As for second act openers, again the first one that came to mind was "This Plumb Is Too Ripe." Then I read others' suggestions and remembered "God, That's Good" and "Side by Side by Side." I love them, too.

Thanks to all who contributed their thoughts about NICK AND NORA. I'm often regretful about not living closer to NYC when shows like this come along and I don't have the time or means to get to NYC to see them before they close.

Loving THE THIN MAN films as much as I do, I would have been there during previews if I had had the means to do so back then.

And I am truly loving the John Schlesinger biography I'm in the midst of reading. I probably need to write William Mann a fan letter because I've loved all of his nonfiction works. I've never read one of his fiction books, however.

It rained during the night here, and that seems to have helped lower the temperature today, too. Not quite as steamy or hot today (though still in the 80s). The forecast, sad to say, shows the temperature gradually increasing over the next few days, though. Our summer still has a long way to go yet.  [sigh]

I don't think anyone has said "Camelot."

I will heartily agree with "Anyone Can Whistle" and "Mame."

"Where's Charely" is both a great title tune and second-act opener.

Yeah - No rehearsal until 3:00 this afternoon.  :)  -Then final dress at 8:00...  -Funny how the time up here seemed to creep by initially, and now... I'll be back in NYC in four days.

Just looked over the list of over 300 DVD releases for next week. I didn't see anything that captured my fancy.

I'm sure some of you (read DR MBarnum) will be jumping at ADAM-12. I certainly liked the show when it came on NBC all those years ago (Saturday nights, right?), but I'm not sure I'd do more than watch them one time through again, so it might better be a rental for me.
