I didn't watch the game OR the half-time show, but a friend summarized it for me, so I didn't have to.

Can you imagine the concept pitch for that halftime show?

“It’s gonna feature a guy named Usher but he’s actually a Performer, plus flying circus freaks, a traditional marching band, pole dancers, a piano shaped like soft-serve ice cream, roller-skating robot people, glittery abs, a bunch of guest performers who make 50-year-olds ask “who is that again?” and a guy who takes his shirt off but leaves one glove on because it’s a family show. People will LOVE it!”

I have found the video of The Visit that BK wrote about recently. I’m liking it better than the Ingrid Bergman film, but it’s not very good. In fact, it’s rather amateurish.

Love and Love Alone is a beautiful Kander and Ebb song. Not enough to rescue the show. The book seems to have forgotten it was supposed to be there. There’s so much that doesn’t have to do with anything.

I think the Trump era can also be to blame for the lack of tension or suspense in the show. We know people will do anything for money. There’s even no sense of shock at the suggestion that the town sacrifice Anton for her revenge.
