THE PONDEROUS IMPONDERABLES
« on: March 21, 2024, 12:17:08 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both ponderous and imponderable, and now it is time for you to post until the ponderous and imponderable cows come home.

I slept very well last night, but everything is off kilter this morning, from my mental state to my breakfast

BK, sorry to read about your book issues. I've had an orchestration problem with the ballet working my last nerve since Monday.

The leading lady's first solo in the ballet is with a guitar; in the original 1877 ballet, it's not a guitar but some exotic guitar-like Indian instrument.  I'm sure the accompaniment was no guitar, probably strings doing some sort of a strum, ming effect, and I'm guessing the melody was played by a solo violin or flute.

Well, the new ballet is set on a western movie location, and I've got a guitar in the orchestration; I decided the perfect solo instrument wasn't a flute or violin, but a harmonica, only a harmonica cannot play the melody and its extended range. So, what sounds like a harmonica? The closest thing I could think of was a melodica, so I wrote a melodica solo for the pianist to play, since the only piano-melodica reference I could think of is in the original score for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Only . . . the entire melodica experience for Indiana University has been a fiasco. We repl;aced it with that damned violin solo which I asked to be played "like a country fiddlew." No, he played it as if it were a violin concerto, not the Grand Ole Opry. Yesterday morning, the conductor and I settled on clarinet solo, which fucks up the accompaniment, but I don't have time to worry about that now. I called Doug, who said he would take care of the situation, and I went to my doctor's appointment. Last afternoon and evening was an exchange of emails between conductor, orchestra manager, Doug, and me beginning with an emailsaying "so it will be a violin solo," followed by my email "WTF? I thought we settled on clarinet?"

I finally wrote "I don't care what you do. I'm out." My only requirement was that if they went with the violin, it better sound like a country fiddle.

I forgot to mention that the orchestra manager found a melodica player and the conductor nixed him/her.

The upside was there was a pizza place, with plenty of seating, open and I had a delicious slice of mushroom pizza and a non alcoholic beer while waiting for my train.

The train headed where I wanted to go had a different ultimate destination than the ones I usually take, and that particular line uses the newer updated trains with plenty of power point so I could recharge my phone on the trip to my station.

And I finally figured out the exact right car to get into so I exited into my station platform directly in front of the stairs I needed to the parking lot.

DR elmroe3003, perhaps you could do that bit where someone bashes someone else over the head with a violin.
