Busy day today! During the day I visited Windsor Castle and saw the Changing of the Guard up close and personal. That was great fun. Music was provided by fife and drum players. Usually they were OK but sometimes the fifes went quite out of tune. Then one of them tried to double on bugle. That didn't go well and was mercifully brief.

Tonight's concert was Alison Balsom playing the UK premiere of Wynton Marsalis's Trumpet Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Anthony Pappano. This was wonderful, and the composer was present to share the applause.

I've only heard Gypsy once so I'm alas missing the reference. Which song? Is it on the original Broadway cast recording?

I've sung Daphnis and it's pretty simple for the chorus, even the one a cappella section. So it hardly let them show off what they can do, but they did it very well.

I took videos so if I go back with my wife, a former piccolo player, she can decide if she wants to see this or not. Though the fifes were on good behavior during the bits I recorded.
