I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep. Up around eleven-thirty and had e-mails to deal with and then book cover stuff to deal with. That's the hang-up - the book cover file is so old the printer doesn't use that kind of file anymore - why they didn't change it five years ago when they had to redo the interior is anyone's guess. It's on the fast track but it's a slow fast track. My gal got someone to oversee it and I sent them a complete set of fixes to do. I also offered that WE could do it and it would probably be much faster that way - waiting to hear back about that. But it will be nice to have the spine match my other books, and to fix the inept layout of the flaps on the dust jacket and the blurbs on the back cover. I sent them all that stuff in a Word doc, so they could just nuke the bad stuff and cut and paste in the new versions. If they want us to do it, all we need is a high-res file of the cover only.

That's pretty much what I've been doing for the past three hours and now I must shave and shower and get ready for the phone meetings at four-fifteen.

I've been down the Madeline Kahn rabbit hole this week. This morning I discovered a recording of her singing Vanilla Ice Cream and I wish I had been there.

https://youtu.be/GT6W0uIOy6E?si=Lq7UMBOhcsTuKEsr

I was very young when I saw it, but I remember having a great time!

The Times critic Richard Eder wrote a scathing review.
https://www.nytimes.com/1977/03/30/archives/song-pushes-song-in-she-loves-me.html

Mr. Eder didn't even like the show SHE LOVES ME itself!
Rex Reed liked that SHE LOVES ME a great deal
https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news/53327590/

but he did not like Madeline Kahn!

He describes why we in the audience were laughing so hard during "Vanilla Ice Cream"
"she [Madeline Kahn] forgets entirely what she's doing and ends up impersonating a spastic scarecrow."

Well, there's no accounting for taste. ::)

Enough, enough. Here's Madeline doing Glitter. It's only a recording.

I love the way she handles the lyric, If I'm not pure, at least my jewels are.

She's very good!

Jesus! Biden had a rally today in North Carolina and he was brilliant, everything we wanted him to be last night.

I'm sure that people who are going to vote for Biden aren't going to change their minds because of the debate.  He just might not get as many independents or undecideds as they had hoped. :-\

I don’t miss reading his writing.

Am I remembering right that Rex Reed was a really well-known celebrity back in the late 1970s?  Maybe even as well-known a critic as Siskel and Ebert?

Yup.  He even acted and is on several recordings.

After warning about a light crop, they did have their fresh tart cherries today. So I have a pound of Schattenmorelles to make my annual Albalou Polow, a Persian rice, lamb, and sour cherries dish.

I’m ushering for George Thoroughgood (sp) and the Destroyers tonight. Robert Cray is the opener. Night of blues music. I got the area with least access to the theater and I am okay with that.
