Currently eating a rice cake, while my Lean Cuisine is cooking.  Yes, I'm on a diet :)

This morning I had a bowl of Special K and a cup of coffee

I'm in a strange mood.  There seem to be so many productive things that I SHOULD be doing...I should clean the carpet, do the dishes, vaccum out my car, and go through my closet and sort clothes...but I can't seem to work up the motivation to do anything other than sit here and surf the net.  Ah well...

Does this ring and bells for anyone?

Clear Space Productions is looking for children, teenagers, adults, ghosts (both friendly and frightening) and a particularly grumpy old guy who refuses to part with his money. Sussex County is in for a treat as preparations get under way for SCROOGE! the Clear Space Production of a new musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," written by Artistic Directors Ken Skrzesz and Doug Yetter.

Dear Mr. Bush:

....

You should add:

PS - Please forgive me for lifting this diatribe from your good friend Michael Moore.

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Our family knows where at least one helicopter PILOT is - we received welcome word last night that our nephew Chris, who has been in Iraq since June, is back in the US.  He's an Air Force search and rescue chopper pilot, so we're wondering if he'll be sent to the Gulf Coast.

There's a nice list of links to organizations through which one can assist victims of Hurricane Katrina at:

Thus far I have eaten a small amount of cheese enchilada casserole from Gelson's.  And one small cheeseburger on a lite bun, total calories for the latter, 240.  And some sour cream and onion rice cakes, total calories 70.

Have moved from Top Hat to Shall We Dance, but I'm suspecting that watching the Astaire/Rogers films in a row is not a good idea.

Daer François,

the other day when you were posting some of the many horrors from New Orleans, you missed the one where the Mayor escorted his tourist friends to the front of the line for evacuation:

Quote
At one point Friday, the evacuation was interrupted briefly when school buses rolled up so some 700 guests and employees from the Hyatt Hotel could move to the head of the evacuation line — much to the amazement of those who had been crammed in the stinking Superdome since last Sunday.

"How does this work? They (are) clean, they are dry, they get out ahead of us?" exclaimed Howard Blue, 22, who tried to get in their line. The National Guard blocked him as other guardsmen helped the well-dressed guests with their luggage.

The 700 had been trapped in the hotel, next to the Superdome, but conditions were considerably cleaner, even without running water, than the unsanitary crush inside the dome. The Hyatt was severely damaged by the storm. Every pane of glass on the riverside wall was blown out.

Mayor Ray Nagin  has used the hotel as a base since it is across the street from city hall, and there were reports the hotel was cleared with priority to make room for police, firefighters and other officials.

(From the Usual Sources)

I ended up donating to the Red Cross through amazon.com.  Seemed like a decent system...just hope the money goes where it's supposed to go.

I feel the same way.  I know a number of people who won't donate to them.

Boy do those links look good.

For my money, I don't find any news service reliable or interesting.  They all do what they can to get readers, truth and fact-checking be damned.

Those links do look good, though.  My, my, my (that is three mys).

I've had the ranch rice chips, too, and they are quite yummilicious.  I don't like the barbecue ones so much.  I also bought chocolate ones, but I'm afraid to try them.  Has anyone?

Thanks BK. I didn't feel like I couldn't. I'm just involved in other groups setting up more specific aid funds and we are all venting like crazy about the situation.

Actually, I have an attorney friend who is working with the musicians union in Houston to set up a fund to get aid to the musicians of New Orleans. They are working on including both union and non-union musicians, but the aid will go directly to them. I will definitely post about it here when I have the details.

I think it is great you are doing something to improve the situation.

I spent a long time this afternoon trying to recover my the photos from my February trip to New Orleans from a back-up I made shortly before my lap top crashed (I was sure I had burned them to a CD, but could not find it). The problem is the software I used to back up the computer is the software that crashed the computer.  I was luckily able to install the software, recover them in safe mode and uninstall the software before I totally crashed the computer again.  I'll post a few in a while

One story I haven't seen reported anywhere came from a friend who evacuated New Orleans and is in Baton Rouge with some of the Zoo Keepers from the Zoo in New Orleans. She told us that they - not looters, but someone apparently official - forced the zoo keepers to leave the zoo and they killed the animals. The story was they would either starve or drown so it was more humane. I think it's terribly sad.
